Obituary For Donald Robert McQuaig

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Robert McQuaig, resident of Teepee Creek, AB, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 11:05pm, at Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 78 years, with his loving family by his side.

Donald was born on December 15, 1939 to Scott and Hazel McQuaig. His family farmed in Teepee Creek and he was one of nine McQuaig children. He graduated from Grande Prairie High School when he was 18. He married at the age of 22 to the love of his life Patsy Hoag in a double wedding with his brother Robin and Patsy’s sister Shirley. He worked at Eatons in Grande Prairie, before moving to Grimshaw, AB to manage the UFA farm store for five years. Donald had a love of music and came from quite a musical family. He played drums in a family band for many years, playing at dances and community events.

In 1970, with a growing family, Donald and Patsy decided to return to their roots of farming to raise their family. They successfully ran a cattle and grain farm side by side while raising 5 children.

Donald was diagnosed at the age 69 with Parkinson Disease, changing the course of his life’s journey. He spent the last 18 months at the Grande Prairie Care Centre where he was cared for until his passing.

Donald will be sadly missed by his wife Patsy Fay McQuaig; children: Janice (Bill), Kevin (Isabel), Cathy (Dave), and Jason (Nicole); as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Dean McQuaig, and parents Scott and Hazel McQuaig; and also by Craig McQuaig and Lilly McQuaig.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 2:00-5:00pm, at Teepee Creek Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Association of Alberta (103, 10901 100 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2M9).

Thank you to all the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre for their care of Donald.

He will be greatly missed, forever in our hearts and cherished memories.

Auntie Patsy and family, I want to send our condolences from all of us here in Texas to all of you. Uncle Donald will be dearly missed. He was a wonderful family man and had a great sense of humor that will always be remembered. He was also a very hard working person and seemed to love to work. Everything he did, he did with excellence. He and Patsy were a great team. When I think of Uncle Donald I think of the teasing, him playing drums, and how well he looked after his animals and farm. I think he lived a happy life and I am glad for that. God bless all of you and know I will be thinking of you often. Love Anne, Glen, and family. ❤️
