Obituary For Doreen Helen Boyd

Today, we lost a ray of sunshine, Doreen Helen Boyd (nee Gillespie), resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, at home, at the age of 91 years.

As a young girl, growing up at Hermit Lake, she was a great athlete, playing softball and holding records for her running. After marriage, Jim and Doreen farmed in the Crystal Creek, AB, area for many years. Doreen was a great cook, renowned for her cinnamon buns. She was also an amazing knitter and seamstress, sewing countless graduation dresses and Halloween costumes over the years. Anything she put her mind to she did well.

All her life she remained an avid sports fan and could quote statistics for her favourite NBA team the Raptors. She spent her last night watching curling on TV. The highlight of her life was her family. She was adored by her children and grandchildren, who loved spending time with her. She has many friends who will feel the loss. It was a life well lived and she will be sorely missed.

Doreen is survived by her four children: Jim (Becky), Nancy (Louis), Kelly (Kerry), and Tammy (Ross); her thirteen grandchildren: Michelle (Will), Jason (Paula), Tyler, Travis, Amanda (John), Nathan, Nicola (Keegan), Kaylene (Steve), Kyrstal (Mack), Kolby (Neil), Shea (Levi), Kelly (Travis), and Liam (Fraize); as well as fifteen great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents Elmer and Mary Gillespie; her husband James Boyd; sisters Olive Walters and Barbara Boyd; her brother Charlie Gillespie; as well as her wonderful friend Bob Kimble.

A Celebration of Life will be held on, April 16, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Oliver Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave). There will be a light lunch to follow. Interment to follow at Glen Leslie cemetery for family.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Doreen’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
