Obituary For Doris Kathleen Ash

Doris Kathleen Ash, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Eastbourne, England, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 102 years.

Doris was born on October 29, 1915 at Peasdown, near Bath, Somerset, England. Doris moved and immigrated to Canada at the age of 79 years, and has resided in Grande Prairie since that time to be near her family.

Doris married Albert William Ash and had two children: Cynthia on July 14, 1946 and Judith on September 28, 1949.

They had a Post Office and worked side by side until retirement when the moved to Devon, England. Eventually, they settled back in the South East. Doris was a widow for 36 years.

Doris was an avid reader. She enjoyed singing, dancing, gardening, cups of tea, going to the Anglican Church every Sunday and was always pleased to be around family. She had a vibrancy and energy for life. We will miss her amazing smile.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters: Judith (Neil) Hall, and Cynthia (Louis) Hayward; grandchildren: Victoria (Darcy) Dunbar, James (Carla) Holton, Alison Hayward (Mike), and Lawrence Hayward (Kim); and great-grandchildren: Austin, Caitlyn, Madison, Emma, Charlotte, Charlie, Colin, Sarah, and William.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Albert William Ash, parents Sarah and Elijah, sister Phyllis, and brother Leslie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Thank you to Dr. Richard Martin, Verna Horney for her excellent care of Mother, Care Centre Staff both on Emmerson and Swan, and Danielle and Nisha who were both there at Mom’s passing.

Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5).
