Obituary For Doris Louise Wells Carter
Our beautiful mother, Doris Louise Carter, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2017, with her family by her side, at the age of 99 years.
Doris was born at the family homestead in Hythe, AB on July 19, 1918. She attended the Glass Lake School, walking miles to school or riding with a number of siblings on a horse. She married Robert Carter in 1936 and they had 7 children.
Doris resided in Grande Prairie most of her life. Her happiest times were family get-togethers. She worked a number of years at Heritage Lodge with her sister Helen. She loved to travel and was an avid reader, bingo player, game show watcher, and a longtime chuck wagon fan.
A heartfelt thank you to the Staff of Points West Cottage D who lovingly cared for our mother. Special thanks to Stacy Vanier and Shayna Demarias.
Mom will be deeply missed by her children: Patricia (Lyle) Molyneaux, Doug (Ghislaine) Carter, Kathy (Kirk) Sutherland, Deb (Dale) Plante, Linda Carter-Plante; and daughter in-law Gerry Lynn Carter. She leaves a wonderful legacy of 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She also held a special love for her many nieces and nephews.
Mom’s heart was broken with the passing of her daughter Joan Dietrich and Joan’s husband Hans, son Bob Carter, as well as her great-granddaughter Cassidy Dietrich. She was predeceased by her mother Bessie Wells; sisters: Sarah Wells, Elaine Hotton, Jean Pattison, Gladyse Tarble, and Helen Martin; brothers: Buck Wells and Charles Wells.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.) with Pastor Alan Jones Officiating. Interment to follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. and 112th St.).
Memorial donations may be made to Odyssey House Women's Center (9913 93 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0J5).
