Obituary For Dorothy Evelyn Dunn

Dorothy “Evelyn” Dunn (nee Lewis), resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Mackenzie Place, at the age of 80 years.

Evelyn passed peacefully with her family by her side, after a long battle with dementia. Evelyn was born March 15, 1937 to Hector and Ella Lewis in Tuberose, SK. She started school in Wiseton, SK, and in the spring of her third year of education, the family moved to Sovereign, SK, where she continued on to complete her grade 12. Evelyn completed her training as a Registered Nursing Assistant in Saskatoon, SK. She worked in Rosetown until moving to Grande Prairie in 1961.

Evelyn and Clifford were married July 23, 1960 in Rosetown SK. Together they raised 3 children in Grande Prairie. She worked at the QEII Hospital from 1963 to 1995 when she retired.

Evelyn’s love for her family, cooking, and camping was unsurpassed! Eve had such a zest for life! She was always laughing, cracking jokes (sometimes inappropriate) singing, dancing and she LOVED entertaining at her house. Every Sunday was family dinner and you were expected to be there. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween, but anytime she could gather her family and friends together to cook and really celebrate anything, was right up her alley!

Evelyn always loved going back to her roots in Saskatchewan to visit the farm, friends and family, she loved taking her grandchildren camping and spoiling them rotten. Eve’s pets were family too, and she spoiled them as much as her grandchildren – they had their own cookie jar and ice cream bucket.

Evelyn leaves behind her husband of 57 years Clifford Dunn; children: Carol (Bo) Zaleski, Jim (Karen) Dunn, Donna (Brian) Descoteaux; grandchildren: Nicole Thompson, Mark Zaleski, Derek Zaleski, Kallyn Dunn, Sarah (Craig) Hudson nee Descoteaux, and Brandon Descoteaux; great-grandsons: Cashlin Thompson, Dane Hudson, and Evan Zaleski; brother Doug (Norma) Lewis; sisters: Loretta (Dennis) Palmier, and Eileen Demko; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister, her brother in-law, sister in-law, and grandson Gavin Dunn in 2014.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 3:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA (12220 104 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 8A8.

Cliff I am sorry to see Ev go but am glad that she's finally at peace. She'll be creating havoc wherever she goes, organizing and cooking and advocating for everyone. I always enjoyed working with her and socializing with the two of you. Such good memories. I am unfortunately out of town this weekend but wanted you to know I was thinking of you and all of the family. Ev always had such great stories about the kids and grandkids. I will try to catch up with you soon. Please extend my sympathy to everyone. Laurel
