Obituary For Dorothy Hannah Van Schaick

Dorothy Van Schaick, born on August 24, 1932, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, after a short battle with pneumonia, at the age of 91 years.

Dorothy was born in Lethbridge, AB, to Hannah and Thomas Ranson in 1932.

Dorothy met Alfred in 1955, and the courtship began, followed by a wedding in September 1956. Two years later in 1958, Dorothy and Alf were blessed with the birth of George, followed by the birth of Dwayne in 1961, and their daughter Linda in 1966. She would do anything for her kids.

Unfortunately, Dorothy lost Alf in 2009, but she continued to live her life to the fullest, which included a lot of shopping, looking for good deals, and lots of visiting with people along the way. When the house and yard became a little too much for her, she moved into Wild Rose Villas where she knew lots of the residents and made new friends. This past August, she moved to the lodge side where she discovered floor curling. She absolutely loved it.

Dorothy leaves behind her children: George (Carol nee Blondeau) of Calgary, AB, Dwayne (Sandra nee Patterson) and their children: Brett (Elisha) and Ty (Mackenzie), and daughter Linda (Brad Paetkau) and their son Andrew (Taylor). Dorothy was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Wynter, Aubree, Kadence, Rowen, and Jace.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Hannah and Thomas; husband of 53 years Alfred; three brothers: Carl, Tom, and Robert; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Wild Rose Manor and the staff at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, for the compassion they showed Dorothy.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 10:00am, at the Salvation Army Community Church in Grande Prairie (9525 83 Ave.). Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am. Interment to follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Community and Family Services (9525 83 Ave., Grande Prairie, Alberta, T8V 6V1), or to Salvation Army Community and Family Service – Food Bank (9615 102 St., Grande Prairie, Alberta, T8V 2T8).
