Obituary For Dorothy "Lorna" Thorpe
Lorna Thorpe, resident of Hythe, AB, formerly of Tisdale, SK, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 66 years.
Lorna was born June 11, 1951 in Tisdale, SK, to Dorothy (nee Noe) and Basil Francoeur. The family resided on a farm in Star City, SK. After losing her father at a young age, the family moved from the farm and into Star City.
She later married Gordon Thorpe, formerly of Melfort, SK. In December 1973, while pregnant with their first child, she suffered a stroke. On New Year’s Day 1974, her daughter Rochelle was born in Regina, SK.
This little family eventually moved to the Grande Prairie, AB area. She worked hard on their little farm looking after all types of critters. She always had a passion for animals, especially horses and dogs. She moved back to Tisdale with her daughter, where she managed the bottle depot for many years. Eventually, she returned to the Grande Prairie area to be with her daughter and grandchildren, whom she cherished. Lorna faced many struggles throughout her lifetime.
She always managed to find a way to do things her way and fought for her independence daily. She never let anything stop her. You would often hear her say “Oh Gosh!”, and then continue to do whatever was required to be done.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Rochelle Thorpe (Roger Boivin), grandchildren: Jordan Thorpe, Shane, Chase and Amber Boivin; as well as various other family members, friends and health care providers.
Lorna was predeceased by her father and mother, step-father Cameron McLeod (of Tisdale), and brother Ralph Francoeur (of Melfort).
The family would like to express their appreciation to the many Health Care providers, as they were cherished by Lorna.

I am so sorry to hear of Lornaâ??s passing. My parents were family friends of Dorothy and Basil and I remember visiting them on the farm at Star City. Lorna and I both loved horses and would spend the afternoon riding her horse â??Goldieâ??. Your Mom had a lot of struggles in her life but carried on in spite of it all. I am so glad she moved to Alberta to be close to you and her grandkids, Iâ??m sure they met the world to her as you yourself did. Sincere Condolences.

Rochelle, I never had the pleasure of meeting your mom. I want to thank her for the gifts she created in this world. I thank her for the daughter she created. You are a gift to your family and friends. You are strong minded and strong willed. You are loyal. You are kind. I have always known you to be a person who would never compromise your integrity. Iâ??m thankful for your friendship. All of these qualities that I see in you must have come from a mom who did her best to nurture you, care for you and love you. I thank her for you, a gift so precious and adored.

Rochelle my deepest sympathy. The Journey Home There's a path that leads to a turn in the road, and we each must travel there. Where the Father waits to take us home to the shelter of His care... Where happiness and peace and joy replace the tears and pain, And our loved ones rest in the arms of God to sweetly live again. Praying God will hold you close, and gently ease your sorrow, Heal your heart, and strengthen you for every new tomorrow. Love to you and your family, her sister-in-law and two nieces
