Obituary For Douglas Allen Marshall
It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Allen Marshall announce his passing on Friday, November 2, 2018, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 79 years.
Doug was born in Lloydminster, SK on March 22, 1939 to Mary and Victor Marshall. They lived in various towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan until Doug left home after graduating high school in Hardisty, AB. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1961, while serving as a navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He also worked at the Federal Business Development Bank and as a salesperson for Bennett and Emmett. He moved to Grande Prairie in 1975 and became the proud owner of Doug Marshall Motor City until 2000, and was involved in numerous businesses.
Doug's love for Grande Prairie was evident by his charitable giving. He was President of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie (1985-86) and served on the board of the Grande Prairie Regional College Foundation.
Doug met Olivia in 1987 and they married on January 7, 1995. Together they flew in his plane all over Canada, United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. They also travelled and cruised to many parts of the world, often with family. Doug was very active and played hockey, baseball, tennis, racquetball and squash and skied. He piloted his own plane. His back pain ultimately made him quit these passions.
Doug leaves to mourn his wife of 23 years Olivia; daughters Jody (Jayson Lavergne) and Jennifer (Steeve Turmel); step-son Ron Wong (Samantha); sisters Barbara Bamford (Kirk) and Terry Marshall; grandchildren: Anthea Lavergne, Lyndon Lavergne, Malia Wong, and Mia Turmel; uncles James McGaughey and Judge Percy Marshall; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 8:30pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.).
A Funeral Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 3:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Reception and fellowship to follow at the Jackpot Grill (10904 92 Ave).
Memorial donations may be made to Odyssey House Women's Center (PO Box 1395, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4Z2).

BEEF BOURGUIGNON- thatâ??s what I will always remember Doug for. He made it in the crockpot... Nothing my dad had ever made in the crockpot EVER tasted as good! Iâ??m so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to say goodbye. And I know how lucky we were to be the daughterâ??s (Jen and Jod), to men worthy of being missed this much. My heart is with you, and my thoughts are of you. Iâ??m going to go pullout the crockpot. xxx

To the Family of Doug Marshall: On behalf of the members of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at the University of Alberta, we share your sadness on the passing of our Brother. Doug was the 252nd person to join our chapter at the University of Alberta. Our group has grown to almost 1,000 members at the U of A. During his time in our chapter, Doug was held in very high regard by his peers, which can be evidenced by his election as Chapter President during the final year of his Electrical Engineering studies. We will commemorate Brother Marshall's life and accomplishments at our annual alumni dinner in September 2019. Sincere sympathy. Ron Holland
