Obituary For Douglas "Doug" Ian McEachern

Douglas Ian McEachern, resident of La Glace, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital, at the age of 89 years.

Douglas was born on July 3, 1933, at the farmhouse in Hinton Trail, AB. He was raised in the Hinton Trail and Halcourt area. He worked in logging camps in Valemount, BC, where he met and married Janece Connell and they spent the next 47 years farming in the Scenic Heights area.

Douglas enjoyed many trips travelling the world. He was an active member in the community by being a convenor for the La Glace Fair, sitting on the AG Board, coaching hockey, and participating in curling bonspiels. He was a committed hockey dad to Rush and Kevin. Douglas enjoyed seeing the countryside on the back of his quad and rarely missed Hockey Night in Canada.

Douglas will be sadly missed by his children: Rush (Louise) McEachern, Dr. Kevin McEachern (Dr. Marianne Stelmaschuk), and Christie (Scott) Weins; grandchildren: Celine and Carter McEachern, Ava, Lara and Jake McEachern, and Julia and Van Weins; as well as ten siblings.

Douglas was predeceased by his sister Shirley.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Luncheon to follow.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Douglas' obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

My sincere condolences to Doug's entire family! I pray for peace and comfort at this difficult time. My husband Doug Greentree and Doug were long time friends from Valemount days until my Doug's passing. They were best men at each other's wedding. Always such a soft spoken man, the two Doug's had many stories to tell, and I would strain to hear them. He will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. He rarely missed games night with the ladies in the home.

My heart goes out to the family. I visited with Doug often when he lived here in LaGlace. I enjoyed the mornings when many would gather in the sitting area and talk. He always had an opinion. We talked often about his chickens from years ago. Doug will be missed.
