Obituary For Douglas Philip Potrebenko

Douglas Philip Potrebenko, resident of Rycroft, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at home with his wife by his side, at the age of 70 years.

Doug was born to John and Anne Potrebenko on December 25, 1948. He was premature, which made him a fighter from the start. He was the first of three boys. He left school at an early age and started his working career welding railroad tracks for Teleweld out of Streator, Illinois, setting welding records which still remain today. He progressed to running crews all over North America, up to 40 crews at one time. In the early 1980’s, he returned to Rycroft and began his farming career.

Whatever the task, he always gave 110%, whether it be sports, work, or farming. He called a spade a spade. He loved his coffee and always had a coffee mug in his hand. Doug enjoyed bowling, farming, playing Crib for loonies, and “Ching”, a boardgame he renamed.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Christine, daughter Diahann Potrebenko, embraced son Shawn Hunt, step-son Jonathan Rogers (Teresa), brother Garry Potrebenko, grandchildren Alexander Hunt and Samantha Rogers, niece Tennio Potrebenko (Brent), nephew Tyson Potrebenko (Alona), great-niece Nola Potrebenko, great-nephew Wells Potrebenko, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his mother Anne Potrebenko, father John Potrebenko, and brother Harvey Potrebenko.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 11:00am, at the Rycroft Ag Society (5010 49 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Chris, so very sorry to hear of Doug's sudden passing. We've cherished Doug and your friendship for the last 25 years. We've shared lots of laughs, solved a few of the world's problems, and wore out a coffee pot or two. Doug may have left us, but the times we shared and the memories we have, will be in our hearts forever. So sorry that we are so far away, and won't be able to be at the funeral. Terry & Pat
