Obituary For Edna Fischer Schweitzer

In God’s Garden Now

Edna went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Points West Living Hospice.

Edna was born on July 9, 1930 in Garden Valley, AB. She married Arnold Schweitzer on April 13, 1953 and resided in Grande Prairie, AB, most of their married life.

Edna will be sadly missed by her husband Arnold, of 62 years; her son Rick (Annie), daughters Sherry and Lori (Warren); her sister Gladys (Walter); five grandchildren: Terence, Robyn (Jessie), Jasmine (Chris), Andrew and Angelique (Bobby), one great-grandson Brandon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Until we meet again.

She was predeceased by her parents Adolph and Emma Fischer, brother Edward (Elsie) and sister Agnes (Bill).

Edna will be fondly remembered for her gift of hospitality and hosted many gatherings over the years. She was an excellent cook and blessed her family and friends with this wonderful expression of her love for them. She also took great pleasure in gardening and said it made her feel closer to God. Edna spent the last few years with vascular dementia, yet the hugs and smiles never stopped.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:00am at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at 9:00am. Interment will be held at the Grande Prairie Cemetery.

A special thanks to Dr. Zamani and staff, Wild Rose Manor staff, emergency and 5 North at the QEII Hospital, the staff at Points West Hospice - all the wonderful people who took such great care of Edna. God bless you.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Hospice and Palliative Care Society (P.O. Box 21215 Grande Prairie, AB T8V 6W7).

We are so saddened to hear about the passing of Edna. She was my favourite cousin growing up. Edna had a knack for making people laugh. We loved talking to her over the phone. She is with our Lord now and the rest of her family, very happy, and happy knowing that someday you and Glade's will meet her again, till then the circle will be unbroken. In God's good grace's, Florence and Karen

Please know how saddened we are to hear about Edna's passing, she was one in a million, and never will be forgotten. She was one of my favourite cousin's along with her sister Glady's. As kids we could play for hours on the farms, then my family moved away to B.C. oh did we cry when I had to go. Edna had a knack for making you laugh, make something that taste awful taste good, and was always there to lend a hand. Even though we lived miles apart we always picked up the phone to have a little chat. Many times we wished we could get together for one last cup of coffee, but it never happened. She is happy now being reunited with most of her family in the house of the Almighty, until we meet again, the circle will stay broken. Give my mother a hug and kiss from me. We will always miss her, and remember how much we love her. Florence & Karen

My thoughts & prayers are with the family during this extremely difficult time. My fondest memories of visiting with my Dear Special Auntie is that they were always filled with love, always laughter & always her homemade delicious food always ready to be eaten. I always looked so forward to our visits growing up. She had a sparkle in her eye and a warmth to her presence. Love to you all.

I am one of the lucky ones that married into a family who welcomed me with open arms. You always have a smile & good food.We value & appreciate to have you in our lives. We want to say we love you! We had fond memory of your beautiful garden & good delicious cooking you provided not just for family but for all your --------------->>>>>>> Christian friends & relatives who enjoyed coming to your place (just to try your baking). You were very loving ,caring & generous & fed all the people that came to your home. We can rejoice because we know where you are.You are home with our heavenly Father probably tending beautiful flower gardens & hoping you will meet my mom & dad there as well.Mom, you are physically gone, but your spirit is more alive than ever. Till we meet again in heaven! We will miss you---not for long JESUS our SAVIOR might come anytime! Love you forever, Rick & Annie

We would like to thank you for having Edna's service on the internet. Since we live so far in California we just couldn't make it, but we were there via the internet. It was a beautiful service, she would have said, why are you making this big to do over me? Because we love you Edna, and you deserve a big send off. You're earthly body might be gone, but we know your spirit lives on. Until we meet again, Florence & Karen

In the days I was with Edna I got to know her spirit. She loved her family and was always so happy to see you all. I'm so glad I got to spend extra time with her as a student to make sure she was comfortable and happy. It was an incredible experience that I will never forget. Thank you for allowing me to care for her in her last days. She was an amazing woman, and I am very sorry for your loss.
