It is with deep sadness that the family of Edna Mae Woyciehouski announce her passing on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the age of 75 years. She was a resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of the Ralston/Medicine Hat area.

Edna was born in 1942 in Lacombe AB, the youngest of four siblings. She met the love of her life, Elmer, while vacationing in Saskatchewan. They were married on April 1, 1961 in Medicine Hat, AB. After the birth of their three children, Edna and Elmer moved to Grande Prairie in 1973. She immediately acquired friends in the neighbourhood and joined the 5-Pin Bowling League, a sport that she thoroughly loved. As one friend and bowling partner described her, "Sharp wit, fast paced walk, hold her hand up to her mouth to hold back a really good laugh, always encouraging, full of energy, love, laughter, and a good time. If you weren't having a good time around her, there was something wrong with you because she was awesome." (Joanne Sylvester).

Edna was also very active with Brownies for approximately 15 years. She was known as Snowy Owl, never was she more happy and content then when she was able to work with young girls and teach them the valuable lessons to get along in life: integrity, honesty, kindness, helpfulness.

In the 10 years that her son played hockey, she never missed a game.

Edna enjoyed “adventure” vacations, with Elmer, starting out from their home with no set destination, just a general direction in mind. She loved camping. family reunions, where she usually was the reigning horseshoe champion, baking cookies for her grandkids, walks with Elmer, and many other various activities. She taught herself to knit. She could sew up anything, and mended many kid’s pants. Her enthusiasm for life was inexhaustible.

Edna was the core of the family, a loving, caring partner for her husband Elmer, and an equally loving strong role model to her three children: daughter Louise Smith, son Warren (Lorna), and daughter Pam (Kevin) Morrison; grandchildren: Gregory (Erika) Smith, Dane (Colleen) Smith, Keifer Smith, Santana Smith, Ashley Woyciehouski, Ronan Woyciehouski, Krista Morrison, Kylie Morrison, and Nicole Morrison; great-grandchildren: Donald Smith, Emma Smith, Colton Smith, Dustin Smith, Taniesha Smith, Emily Smith, and Kade Morrison-Cardinal.

She was predeceased by her parents Wilbert and Anne; 2 sisters Iris Miller and Doris Miller, and brother Alfred Hunter.

Her deepest influence to her family was her kindness and caring for each and everyone, whether family, friend, neighbour or stranger. She will be sadly and deeply missed.

Elmer and the family would like to thank all of the first responders for all their effort and the compassion they all showed during this time.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
