Obituary For Edward Joseph Dietzen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Joseph Dietzen, on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the age of 90 years. Edward passed peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family members and caregivers at the Valleyview Long-Term Care facility where he had resided since March 2017.

Edward was born on May 13, 1929 in Quentin, SK where he was raised until he moved to Lethbridge, AB with his family. It was there that he met and married his loving wife Barbara in 1950 and they started their family. His older brother Tony talked him into homesteading and, in 1961, they moved to the Smokey River MD in northern Alberta and never looked back. Edward then built up a thriving grain farming operation with the help of his wife and sons.

He worked hard and lived his life to the fullest. He loved and supported his family in any of their endeavors.

Edward leaves to mourn his wife Barbara Dietzen (nee Illerbrun); children: Barry (Cindy) Dietzen, Gary Dietzen, Karen (Frank) Yee, Leslie (Skye) Dietzen, and Darcy Dietzen (Rhonda Jackson); grandchildren: Candace (Chad) Thomson, Remington Dietzen (Bev Smith), Celeste Dietzen, Kristen Dietzen, Thomas (Melissa) Fletcher, Blair (Amanda) Dietzen, Alissa Dietzen (Chad Brown), Riley Dietzen, and Regan Dietzen; as well as his great-grandchildren: Easton, Hayes, Logan, Carter, Madilyn and Phaedra.

Edward was predeceased by his parents Matthias and Christina Dietzen; brothers: John, Tony, and Leo; sisters Susanna and Pauline; and son Larry.

Edward’s family are grateful to the doctors and staff of the Valleyview Long-Term Care facility for their professional and compassionate care while he was a patient there.

Edward expressed his wishes not to have a public service when he passed and wanted to be remembered for living, not dying. Edward’s family will hold a private family celebration of his life later in the summer. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted knowing he is resting in peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca, 102, 9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 4B4).
