Obituary For Edward Walter Brown

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Walter Brown on Monday, July 5, 2021, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 84 years.

Ed was born November 23, 1936, in Radway, AB to Warren and Daisy (nee Walker) Brown. He had two brothers: James (Maxine) and Murray (Lynne), and one sister: Gladys (Albert) Eggenberger of Yellowknife, NWT.

In the summer of 1951, the family moved to a half-section along the Beaverlodge River, about 1 ½ miles west of Beaverlodge. In the summer of 1959, Ed married the love of his life, a spirited farm girl from Beaverlodge, Marian Carty, daughter of George and Edith Carty. Ed and Marian farmed with his parents and started their own family of four children: Carolyn, Marvin, Randie, and Darryl. They stayed on the farm until Ed and Marian retired and moved to Beaverlodge.

Eddie was a pillar in the community and was the foundation for his family. He was involved with the Beaverlodge Elks, Unifarm, the Anglican Church, and Vestry, 4-H Beef Club, and The Beaverlodge Cultural Centre where he was instrumental in moving it to where it sits today and spent many years on the board of directors. He was the driving force behind getting the new barn for the Ag Society and was also on that board for many years.

The Brown family received the Farm Family Award in 1995, and Ed also received the Mayor’s Award of Distinction in 2011, from the Town of Beaverlodge. Many years ago, the Alberta Government gave Ed the Alberta Centennial Medal for significant contribution to their fellow citizens, their community, and to Alberta.

Family is forever, and he created a large, loving one that will forever be held (Dad, Grandpa, Great-Papa) in our hearts. We have a piece of you in each and every one of us. As we look back and picture your smiling face and feel one of your tight hugs, we will be forever grateful for how much you gave and loved each and every one of us.

Ed will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years Marian; children: Carolyn (Dan) Morgan, Marvin (Lori), Randie (Charlene), and Darryl (Cheryl); 9 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Tanya (Matt Chomyc), Cody (Megan Cunningham), Michelle (Nathan Welch), Ryan (Karolina), Kristen (Josh Burns), Rhiannah, Brittany, and Clayton; 10 great-grandchildren: Mason, Saydey, Paizley, Bentley, Emma, Emmett, Porter, Demi, Bryce, Hayes, and two more on the way! He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Ed was predeceased by his father Warren, mother Daisy, brothers James and Murray, father in-law George Carty, mother in-law Edith Carty, son in-law Gordie Ray, sisters in-law: Patricia Carty, Louise McNeil, Gina Sandboe, and Maxine Brown; brothers in-law: Norman Watson, Ralph McNeil, and Robert Tappen; and nephew Keith Watson.

A Celebration of Edward’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 2:00pm, at Beaverlodge Alliance Church (409-10 St, Beaverlodge, AB), with interment to follow at Beaverlodge Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Beaverlodge Elks (Box 895, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0), or a charity of one’s choice.

July 14, 2023 Dear Marian and Family, Thank you for letting me know about Ed's passing. I am sending my sincere condolences to you and your family. After an absence from Beaverlodge of approximatley 70 years, it was heartwarming to reunite with you at the Sunday morning church service, July, 2013. Your introduction of me will always be remembered. The meal and conversation we shared after the service will remain in memory. What was to be an half hour visit turned out to be longer than expected because there was so much to catch up in such a short time. Mathew 5:4 " Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Blessings, William (Bill) Weatherup, Ottawa, Ontario

Dear Marion. It is with deep sadness that I read Eddie's obituary. He , and you, his family, were at the heart of everything that made Beaverlodge so special. If something good was going on, Eddie could be counted on to be part of it. This is such a great loss for your family, and for Beaverlodge. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and to your whole family, Marion. Life is forever changing and these times are painful- surround yourself with love of family and friends, take care of yourself, know you are loved. I may no longer be there, but the memories will never fade. With love, Kathleen. posted by Kathleen Julien Nychka
