Obituary For Elizabeth Lois Bailey Wright
Elizabeth Lois Wright (nee Bailey) passed away with loved ones at her side at the QEII Hospital on Saturday April 27, 2019. She was 85 years to the day of her birth.
She was predeceased by her father Oscar Bailey, mother Thelma Isabelle (Bailey) Love, stepfather Ed Love, brothers Jim and Jerry Bailey, and sisters Linda (Love) Rankin and Lucille (Bailey) Chandler.
Betty, as she preferred, was born on April 27, 1934 in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan. After a very happy childhood in Demaine, Betty went to teacher’s college, and she enjoyed a life of teaching.
She married Don Wright in 1957 and they had four children: Beverly, Valerie, Karen and Don Jr. Although her marriage to Don ended later in life, they remained the best of friends.
Betty taught for Indian affairs in Ontario, then moved to Demmit, AB and taught in Hythe. She then moved to California where she worked at an Auto Auction for a year. Missing her calling as a teacher she moved back to Canada and taught in Olds, AB at the Horizon School for the Disabled for a couple of years until moving back to the Peace Country. She took a teaching job in Teepee Creek, then La Glace School. She retired and moved to Beaverlodge with her childhood crush Reg Roberts. Betty and Reg moved to Demaine, Saskatchewan enjoying catching up with family and old friends, where they spent the next 6 years until Reg’s passing. She then relocated back to Grande Prairie.
Betty made her home at Heritage Lodge. She loved and appreciated her friends, the staff, and the caregivers at the home and hospital.
She always had a song and a smile for her 8 grandchildren and their spouses and her 8 beautiful great-grandchildren.Family was so important with gatherings, games and songs. Betty set the pace with her quick mind, laughter, and with old memories as well as new ones. Our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and dearest friend has brought much love into everyone’s life. She is also survived by her brother William Love.
She was a very strong lady surpassing more than the world could believe. With much love left behind her, and never to be forgotten, as her legacy continues through the roots she gained for life, family and friends.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life Luncheon to be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 2:00-4:00pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie (9610 108 Ave.).
