Obituary For Elizabeth M. Booth Ludbrook
With sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Marian Ludbrook on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at her residence in Burnaby, BC, at the age 102 years.
Betty was the only child of Franklin and Lucie Booth of Edmonton, AB. She showed exceptional musical talent from a very young age, winning many prizes with her clear soprano voice. She married the love of her life in 1939, promptly leaving the comforts of the city (Edmonton) for the Peace River District, and encountered some unexpected hardships of the day (i.e. Peace River Gumbo). Betty and Alf persevered and built a home on 106th Ave. in 1946 where they raised their family.
Particularly remembered in the Grande Prairie area, Betty and Alf established Ludbrook’s Spice of Variety on Richmond Avenue (now the site of Al’s News) from 1958 to 1979. Betty maintained the family home until 2005, when she moved to Burnaby. She was a longtime member of Christ Church Anglican and the Grande Prairie Sweet Adelines.
Beloved mother of two daughters: Joy (Fergus) Nash of Burnaby, BC, and Joanne (Stewart) Grant of Pointe Claire, QC; grandchildren: Kevin (Jane) Jones, Jonathan, Jenessa, and Lia Grant; and great-grandchildren Alanna Crawford and Liam Jones.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred William (1989) and their son John Franklin (1995).
The family thanks the Staff of Normanna Retirement Home for their extraordinary loving care and support over the past few months.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Betty’s Life on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:00am, at Christ Church Anglican in Grande Prairie (6610 Poplar Drive). Refreshments to follow in Speke Hall at the church.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may make a memorial donation to a charity of one’s choice.

Hi Joanne. We have lost touch. I still remember our school times/music classes and of course shopping in your parents' store. Always something to yearn for in there. Your mother had an amazing life! Will you be in GP? If I don't see you, my condolences. Christine

Dear Joanne. I have thought of you often since you told me your mom passed in September. 103!!! What a fabulous life she had. I have so many fond memories of her from our years in GP - a warm and welcoming lady she was. I remember one of my first meals at your house (we were maybe 6 or 7???) and there was a colorful â??pillâ?? at my plate. Not ever seeing a vitamin before, I was perplexed at what lay in front of me. But I soon realized that was my standard â??starterâ?? when dining with my friend! Maybe vitamins were what helped lead her to such a full life :-). I recall many sleepovers and how patient she was with our late night shenanigans! She was a kind soul. I am sure the memories you made over the course of her lifetime will sustain you and Joy for years to come. Hugs from afar .... xx Shirley

Joanne, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mother was a lovely and gracious lady. I remember her with affection from our days together in the choir at Christ Church in Grande Prairie. And, of course, I remember you after all these years since you taught cello to my daughter Karen in Lethbridge. Thinking of you and your family with sympathy. Kathy McClellan

I have the fondest memories of Betty and Alf. I did lots of renovations for them. They were the nicest people. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
