Obituary For Elmer James Bulford
Elmer James Bulford, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 96 years.
Elmer was born to Kate and Haviland Bulford, on April 5, 1926, on the family farm near Clairmont, AB. When Elmer was a young boy, the family, consisting of his parents, older sister Irene, twin brothers Harvey and Harry, Elmer’s twin sister Elenor and their Uncle Stanley, moved to Bezanson, AB.
Elmer married Ann Stark in August of 1947, and they raised their family on a farm north of Bezanson, where they lived their entire marriage of 67 years until Ann’s passing in 2014. Farming was his life but he also worked on the rigs as a boiler man during the winter months. For a few years, he also worked at Civic Tire in Grande Prairie.
Elmer had a strong desire to travel and see the world. Together with Ann, they travelled to many destinations, often with family and friends. He loved family gatherings, woodworking, playing cards, baseball (Blue Jays), curling, gardening, and berry picking.
After Ann’s passing, Elmer moved to Wild Rose Manor where he reconnected with old friends and made many new ones. He was very thankful for the kind and caring staff who made his new home pleasant and enjoyable. He was delighted when his twin sister Elenor moved in to Wild Rose for a few years and was saddened by her passing last November.
Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jim (Dorothea), Vern (Darlene), Janet (Bill) Doll, Everett (Linda), Annette (Bob) Simigan, and Sherry (Ben) Doll; grandchildren: Teresa, Heather, David, Liza, Katie, Darren, Chris, Quinton, Angela, Tyler, Andy, Rick, Jason, Carson, and Chase, and their spouses; along with twenty-two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Ann; grandson Stephen Bulford; sister Irene Nellis; brothers Harvey and Harry; as well as twin sister Elenor Bain.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 3:00-5:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home, with lunch to follow. Interment will follow at the Glen Leslie Cemetery.
A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Elmer’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
Memorial Donations may be made in loving memory of Elmer to the Kleskun Hills Museum Society (P.O. Box 341, Bezanson, AB, T0H 0G0) or to the charity of your choice.
