Obituary For Elsie Anna Farnquist Lock
Elsie Anna Lock, resident of the Beaverlodge, AB area, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019, at the age of 83 years.
Elsie was born on June 5, 1936 in Galahad, AB to Carl and Christina Farnquist and was the fourth of five children. Elsie was raised on a farm near Galahad and then moved with her parents to a farm just a little north of Beaverlodge in 1952, when she was 16 years old.
She later met her sweetheart, Allan Lock. They married on March 4, 1955 and had two sons, Garry and Bruce. Their journey in life together included buying their first quarter of farmland in 1960 and another quarter in 1962. Allan worked at the Research Station until they bought Allan's father's farm in 1976 and they began farming full-time.
Elsie enjoyed the farm life and was always busy tending to her huge garden which she loved to share. Her passions included gardening, cross stitch and lace net darning handicrafts and she was often busy at one of them. She loved to give her creations away to family and friends. Elsie was a wonderful and generous woman, often volunteering her time to share her baking, especially her buns, at bake sales or church roast beef suppers. The community volunteer spirit ran deep in Elsie. As many have said, Elsie loved and lived the Thrift Store, raising money for the Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation. She was a member of the Beaverlodge Lions Club for the last 24 years, helping the community through volunteerism. She was all about loving and giving. A woman with a great big heart!
One of the many high points in her life was in 1987 when she reunited with the daughter she gave up at birth. It was a blessing for the remainder of her life. Family meant everything to Elsie. She always had time to tell friends and strangers how much she loved her family, especially the grandkids. Her greatest love of all, of course, was her husband and sweetheart Allan. They were inseparable.
Elsie will be sadly missed by her sons Garry and Bruce (Marlene); grandson Ed (Jodi) and their children: Keenan, Trinity, Sierra, Stevan and Shaun; grandson Ryan (Kirby) and their daughter Charlee; grandson David (Nicole) and their children Ashlyn and Olivia; birth daughter Diane and her children Vanessa and Matthew; brother Ed (Ann) Farnquist; and Allan's sisters Betty Longson and Margaret Bradshaw.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband Allan, parents Carl and Christina Farnquist, and brothers: Elmer (Mary), Alf and Lars.
We love you, Elsie! Such a caring and special woman. Until we meet again.
As requested by Elsie, there will be no funeral. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Halcourt Cemetery. On Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 7:00pm, we invite family and friends to join us in a Celebration of Life with refreshments and snacks at the Beaverlodge Community Center (1014 4 Ave.).
