Obituary For Elsie Rehm McQuaig

Elsie McQuaig resident of Wild Rose Manor, Grande Prairie, formerly of Teepee Creek, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the age of 94 years.

Elsie was born May 1, 1922 in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, 7th of 8 children to parents Dan and Muriel Rehm. She married the love of her life, Ted McQuaig in 1943 and they raised 7 children and cherished 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Elsie was a positive, fun loving person who loved her family and friends unconditionally. She had a gift for making you feel special because she genuinely believed you were. She only looked for the good in people and was loved for that. She was the life of any party. Lucky were those that knew her or got to be the victim of one of her mischievous pranks!

In Elsie's own words, her passions were: "dancing, playing the piano, visiting with family and friends, reading, sewing, and rocking babies and just having fun. Favorite places are home and visiting my kids."

Elsie's zest for life and love of music brought joy to so many. She will remain forever in our hearts.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Jim (Helen) McQuaig, Dale McQuaig, Lorrie (Conrad) Sevilla, Jody (Darrell) Stone, and Glenda (Wilf) Guenette; daughters-in-law; Linda McQuaig and Carrie McQuaig;

grandchildren: Garnet (Shannon) McQuaig, Cori (Kevin) Dorscheid, Ian (Julie Fogle) McQuaig, Michelle (Duncan Audley) McQuaig, Jared (Brad Leibel) McQuaig, Brandi McQuaig, Stacey (Richard) Reid, Conrad (Giuliana) Sevilla, Kellie (Guy Rees) McQuaig, Crista (Jay Wilson) McQuaig, Sandi (Tyler) Martin, Jill Peters, Brittany (Kyle) Gee, Robyn (Mike Young) Guenette, Kaylee (Jeff MacLellan) Guenette , Lauren Guenette; sisters-in-law: Carol McQuaig and Edith Rehm; as well as 23 great grandchildren.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Ted McQuaig; sons: Terry McQuaig and Brian McQuaig; and grandson Lance Stone; as well her parents, her in-laws, and 7 siblings.

A Memorial Service will be held at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.) on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:00am, with luncheon to follow at the Golden Age Centre (10222 101 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB).

Elsie sewed baby quilts and gave them as gifts. The family requests that you bring the quilt she sewed for you to the funeral service in honor of Elsie and display it on the back of your chair.

Memorial donations may be made in Elsie’s memory to Senior’s Outreach (9905 101 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 0X7) or to a charity of one’s choice.
