Obituary For Emilia Knoblauch Sellin

It is with great sadness and loving pride that the family of Emilia Sellin, longtime resident of Northmark and Spirit River, AB, announce her passing on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Central Peace Health Complex, at the age of 95 years.

Emilia Sellin was born in Luschetsa, Poland, on June 13, 1922 to Jacob and Margaret Knoblauch. Her family immigrated to Canada and she was raised on the family farm in the Northmark community. She married Alfred Sellin and together they raised their children on their farm along the Burnt River. Emilia was proud and passionate about her family, farming and gardening and was often referred to as "the lady with the cows".

Throughout her life, her cooking skills were shared at the Spirit River Hospital, numerous oil camps, and as an active member of Women of Unifarm. Emilia worked hard on her cattle farm into her 80's after which she became a resident of Pleasant View Lodge and Central Peace Health Complex Continuing Care until her passing.

Emilia is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons: Conrad (Carol), Herbert (dear friend, Cindy), Werner (Jeanine), Herman (Sharolyn), and Wilhelm (Judita) Sellin; daughter Alvina (Brian) Sellin-Moat; brothers Jake (Grace), Reinhold (Delores), and Edward (Bonnie) Knoblauch; and sisters in-law Inger Knoblauch and Mary Knoblauch. She will also be forever remembered by her numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Emilia was predeceased by her husband Alfred Sellin in 1988; brothers William and Verner Knoblauch; infant brother Albert; and sister Alvina Hensel.

The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to Dr. W. Spruyt, attending physicians, medical and all support staff that provided for her care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AHS - Central Peace Health Complex - Palliative Care Committee (P.O. Box 819, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3GO).
