Obituary For Ernest "Ernie" Howrish
Ernest “Ernie” Howrish died Monday, August 21, 2017, in Spirit River, Alberta.
Ernie is survived by his wife Annette; children: Gerald (Sherilyn) Howrish, Kenneth (Loraine) Howrish, Patricia (Darrell) Norman, Timothy Howrish, Shelly (Harvey) Werboweski, and Daryl (Nicole) Howrish; and 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mom and dad Jim and Katie Howrish; brothers: Stan, Mike, Walter, and Paul; infant sisters Olga and Elizabeth; sister Stella; sisters in-law Mary and Olga; and brother in-law Joe Komarnisky.
Ernie was born on November 29, 1933 in Viking, Alberta to Jim and Katie Howrish. He married Annette Strilchuk in 1956. After moving to Spirit River, Ernie began working for his brothers in construction, then into logging, followed by farming. Ernie was incredibly proud of his family, and extended family, and would talk highly of his children and grandchildren. He worked hard, played hard, and enjoyed life. May his soul rest in peace.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Rycroft Ag Center at 11:00am with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ernie’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Central Peace Palliative Committee (Box 339, Spirit River, AB, T0H 3G0), or to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (Unit 109, 10126 120 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 8H9).

Annette and family: So sorry to hear about the passing of Ernie. Whenever I returned to Spirit River I spent my valuable time with my family so I never saw much of you. I have such fond memories of your family as I was your "regular" babysitter for quite a few years. I've told Jerry about the times I'd babysit and the boys loved your home-baked cookies, Annette. They'd step on the cupboard to reach them!! I used to babysit for you and Ernie and you were such a special part of my life while I was growing up. Whenever you came home early, you always overpaid me. Sometimes, in retrospect, I think that you and Ernie felt sorry for me being raised by a single parent. Annette, I hope that you and your family know that I respect you and hope that you can get through this difficult time in your lives. By the way, I lost my husband to cancer 14 years ago and I retired immediately. After being a widow for 5 years, I found a soul-mate who lost his wife, and we've become partners for 8 years after that. I spend 6 months in Osoyoos and 6 months in Arizona so I'm doing well. Huge hugs to you, Annette and family.
