Obituary For Ernest Socha

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ernest Julian Socha on Saturday, August 27, 2016, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 80 years. He passed away peacefully at the Points West Hospice after a battle with Cancer.

Ernest was born in Eaglesham, AB on January 11, 1936 to Stanley and Annie Socha. He remained on the family farm until retiring to Grande Prairie in 2003 with his wife Lois of 56 years.

Ernest’s passions in life were his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed venturing to the Clairmont Senior Centre, where he made many new friendships playing pool and cards on a weekly basis. Ernest also loved going out to Eaglesham to help his family with the yearly fall harvest.

Ernest is survived by his wife Lois Socha; daughters: Karen Socha and Sandra Socha; grandchildren: Matthew, Kortney (Josh), Christina (Kyle) and Sydney (Abe); great-grandchildren: Kiara, Tyler and Oliver.

He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Annie Socha, brother Larry Socha, and son Rodney Socha.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Points West Hospice for the extra care they gave to Ernest and Lois during his time there.

At Ernest’s request, there will be a private interment in Eaglesham on Friday, September 2, 2016 with an open social gathering on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 1:00pm, at the Clairmont Senior Centre (9801 100 Ave).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grande Prairie Hospice Palliative Care Society (Box 21215, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6W7).

I hope that you can find some comfort knowing that Ernie was a good man and always treated me and my family well. I was always liked visiting with you and Ernie when i had the chance.
