Obituary For Evelyn Steinke Haugland
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Haugland (Rode), nee Steinke on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 92 years.
Evelyn was born on June 6, 1928, to Gustav and Mary Steinke and they resided in the North Kleskun area outside of Sexsmith, AB. On December 22, 1948, Evelyn married Leonard Rode and they had almost forty-eight years together. From this union, a daughter, Carolyn, was born.
Evelyn worked most of her years at the Royal Bank in Sexsmith and finally retired in Vernon, BC. In 1996, due to Len's health, they moved back to Grande Prairie, but he passed away in November of that year. In May, 1998, Evelyn married Herman Haugland and they enjoyed five years together pursuing his horseshoe tournaments, floor curling and camping. Evelyn had a profound faith in God and we know she is in the house of the Lord now.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Bryan) Gaunt; grandsons Blake (Stacey Edwards) Gaunt and Dillan (Andrea Carlson) Gaunt; numerous grandchildren; numerous step- (children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild); brothers John (Donna) Steinke, and Ben (Shirley) Steinke; in-laws: Margaret and Floyd Sloat, Alvin (Alice) Rode, Carol Rode, Dora Poirier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by husbands: Leonard Rode and Herman Haugland; parents Gus and Mary Steinke; brothers Arthur and Fred Steinke; sister in-law Joey; nephew Russell Sloat; niece Sherry Cornish; as well as numerous in-laws in the Rode and Haugland families.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 10:00am, at Faith Lutheran Church in Grande Prairie for family and friends. Due to Covid19 restrictions, there will be no luncheon.
Interment at Emmaus Lutheran Church cemetery will follow the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Emmaus Lutheran Church Cemetery Society (Box 476, Sexsmith, AB, T0H 3C0).
