Obituary For Francis Lorne Feckley
Francis Lorne Feckley, known to all as Lorney, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 4:05pm, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB.
He was born January 11, 1931 to George and Bertha Feckley at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, AB. He spent his youth in Rosebud, AB. He attended Olds College and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for his degree in Agriculture. In 1955, he moved to Oregon where he married the love of his life Elva Rosella (Kale) Read, she being a widow with three special children: Dick (8 years), Tim (6 years) and Judy (4 years). They continued to live in Stayton, Oregon where Lorney farmed and worked in plywood mills. In 1957 Doug was born followed by Lynda in 1959. In 1968, while Dick and Tim were in Vietnam and Judy stayed behind to go to University, Lorne, Elva, Doug, and Lynda moved back to Rosebud where Lorne rescued the family farm.
He struggled to make a success of the farm, and over the years, with good business logic and forward thinking, turned it into a very profitable business. In 1998, he sold the farm and retired to Strathmore, AB, where he built a new house and loved to follow and invest in the Stock Market. He was again very successful and enjoyed this endeavor. In June of 2014, his health slipped away and in August of 2014, he moved to Grande Prairie, to be close to his youngest daughter Lynda, where he resided until his death.
Left to mourn are his sister Iona (Gene) David, his wife Elva, children Dick (Alice) Read, Tim (Carol) Read, Judy (Rod) Read Simmons, Doug (Jean) Feckley, Lynda (Dalvin) Feckley Napen; grandchildren: Charyl Read, Mike Read, Jason (Christina) Read, Erin (Jason) Read Martin, Robbie Waterbury, Ryan (Angela) Feckley, Blayne (Anita) Feckley, Jillian Napen, Larissa (Stan) Napen Sinclair, Joshua Napen and Breanna Napen; great-grandchildren: Ryleigh, Rheanna, Brayden, Cade, Irie, Jane, Hailey and Connor.
Lorney was predeceased by his father George Feckley, his mother Bertha Feckley (Christensen) and his brother Brian Christensen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Cremation to follow with interment Monday, December 21, 2015, at 11:00am at the Grande Prairie Cemetery.
Memorial Donations in Lorney’s name may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation (350 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata, ON, K2M 2W1) or to STARS (10911 123 St, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7Z3).

We were all so sad to hear about Lorney's passing and send hugs to all of your hurting hearts. He was a very fine man and a great father, and we have lots of memories of times spent together with all of your family. Lorney's name is often a part of stories that my dad tells about his younger days growing up in Rosebud. Heartfelt condolences from Bob and I, and also from Jim and Clara. You've been on our minds and in our hearts, and we'll be there with you in spirit on December 18.
