Obituary For Fred Anton Berg
It is with a sad heart we announce the passing of Fred Anton Berg, at the age of 64, at home in (South Wapiti) Grovedale, on Thursday, February 16, 2017.
Fred was born on August 9, 1952, in Grande Prairie, AB, to Freida and Anton Berg. Fred lived in the South Wapiti / Grovedale area all his life.
Fred enjoyed farming, hunting and trapping until he had a stroke in 2015. He also enjoyed telling stories of his past and visiting with friends. Fred went to the only school in the South Wapiti area, then went to school in Grovedale, and finally to Grande Prairie to finish high school.
After graduating, Fred started working for Nilsson Sawmill in Grovedale. When they closed their doors, Fred went to work for Canfor Plywood in Grande Prairie until 1992 when the mill closed their doors. That’s where he met his wife Leslie.
Fred is survived by his wife Leslie (Latham) of 32 years. They had no children, but he treated his nieces and nephews like they were his own kids. He is also survived by his mother in-law Doreen Latham; sisters in-law Shawna (Lorne) Rowland of Gilbert, South Carolina and Marla (Ed) Rubik of Athabasca; brother in-law Daron Latham of Grande Prairie; nieces Ashlea Latham (Paul) of Austin, Texas, Meagan Rubik (David Sharko) and Janelle Rubik of Grande Prairie; nephews Allister (Mallory) Rubik of Edmonton, Troy (Destiney) Latham, Darien Latham of Grande Prairie and Jaret (Cindy) Rowland of Gilbert, SC; great-nieces Sidney and Korey Latham; as well as numerous family members and friends.
