Obituary For Fred Harley

Fred Harley, resident of Fairview, AB, formerly of Berwyn, AB, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 in Fairview, AB at the age of 88 years.

Fred was born in Mildred, SK on April 13, 1928. Most of his childhood was spent in Northern SK. His first jobs were doing chores around town and working for local farmers. He moved to Sunset House in 1949 to homestead, and married Ellen Halvorson in 1952. After moving to Berwyn, Fred was a livestock dealer and feedlot operator.

Fred was very well known for always having a joke. He was very loved by everyone at the Harvest Lodge and had a high-five no matter how many times he saw another resident during the day. He loved bowling on the Wii and playing cards. Prior to moving to Fairview, when Fred was still on the farm, he did a lot of woodworking and made various game boards for all the kids.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Susan Kuzemchuk (Ken), Barry (Val), Curtis (Judy), Jeff (friend Sharon); son in-law Rob Burdess; grandchildren: Michael (Maggie), Deanna (Aaron), Alan (Mona), Miranda (Adam), Danielle (Darcy), Penny (Curtis), Jeffrey, and Jade (Morgan); great-grandchildren: Nikkieta, Ryan, Ken, Atley, Cole, Allison, Quintin, Nolan, Xavier, Harper and Haleigh; sisters Elsie Cope and Joan Klassen; and brothers Sid and Harry.

He was predeceased by his wife Ellen and longtime partner Marie Lund; children Jonathan and Jean Burdess; brothers: Henry and Harold; and sisters Ruth and Gwen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 2:00pm, at Berwyn Elks Community Hall in Berwyn, AB.

Memorial Donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association (#100, 12220 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB, T5N 3Y4) or to Harvest Lodge Senior Citizens Complex in Fairview, make cheques payable to Happy Harvesters (10400 108 St., Fairview, AB, T0H 1L0).
