Obituary For Fred Reaume

Alfred Louis Reaume, resident of Spirit River Alberta, passed away on Sunday February 2nd, 2025, at the Spirit River hospital at the age of 87.

Fred was born in Sexsmith Alberta on September 8th 1937. He was raised on a farm with his mom and dad and family; where they homesteaded near La Glacé AB until he was 14 years old. Fred and his family then moved to Peace River Alberta where he went to school at the Mission where at that time was located on the Shaftesbury trail. Fred attended High School in Peace River, Alberta. He worked many jobs as a teenager, working for farmers, market gardens, and being a caretaker of a swimming pool as well as giving swimming lessons to younger children; all to earn money for school. Fred then built a home on the banks of the Peace River which was originally the home of Louis and Marie Houle (Grand Parents) and raised a family. While he lived near the town of Peace River, Fred worked as a truck driver, equipment operator, and later he was hired as a supervisor for a large company (Karnorth) to manage all the heavy equipment and work projects for oilfield and construction companies. Fred later moved to Spirit River AB. Fred then worked for M.D 133 as a public works supervisor in Saddle Hills County; Fred worked there until his retirement.

Fred loved Sports of any type, fishing, hunting, coaching hockey and fastball. Fred was very proud of all his teams who he had coached, especially when he had the C team winning tournaments. He loved teaching anyone how to repair anything that needed fixing, especially heavy equipment and engines. Fred was also very passionate about horses and loved competition in such card games as Bridge, Poker, and Crib.

Fred married Jean in 1987, and they lived their lives farming and raising horses for 32 years. He enjoyed families coming to visit, often encouraging the grandchildren to come and stay anytime, especially throughout the summer holidays. Fred would often spend hours outside getting done all the work that was needed to be finished. The little kids would often climb up onto Fred’s knee and cuddle down on his fat warm belly after a day outside to warm up while watching the hockey game until they fell asleep.

Fred was very proud of his stepdaughter Jolinda and step-grandchildren who came in turns to take care of him at home when he was very sick and needed a hand, in order for him to stay in his own home longer. Jolinda and Dan sold their home and moved to Spirit River to take care of Fred and Jean this past year. Fred was happy to see the Grandchildren, Crystal, Chantel, Eric, Justin, and great grandson that came to visit him in the hospital, especially his great grandson Graycen, who comforted him by holding his great grandpa’s hand every time he visited him in the hospital. He was happy when Lauren had a baby girl on his 87th birthday which made him smile. The older grandkids often brought Fred treats to make him happy.

Fred will sadly be missed by his wife Jean Reaume, his daughter Joanne and his son Marty as well as his stepchild Jolinda. He will also be missed by his grandchildren; Crystal, Trevor, Stephanie, Jared, Chantel, Eric, Justin, Lauren, and Angie (Ginger), as well as his great grandchildren; Josh, Graycen, Alyssa, and Darius. As well as special friends David Young and Randy and Tracy Hallihan.

Fred was predeceased by his parents George and Cecila Reaume, Brothers Bill and Lloyd Reaume, Daughter Linda Garand, his Son Shane Reaume and stepson Jody Regnier.

Memorial donations may be made to the Spirit River Hospital Continuing Care (PO Box 339, Spirit River, Alberta, T0H 3G0).
