Obituary For Frederick "Freddie" Polachuk

Freddie Polachuk, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Spirit River, AB, passed away in his home on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 74 years.

Freddie was born on May 14, 1950, to Rose and Fred Polachuk. He was the youngest of six children and grew up in Spirit River. At the tender age of 19 years, he met his wife Ruth, who was 17 years, and they spent the rest of their lives creating a home and family life together. They welcomed their children, Sarah Polachuk on May 23, 1985, into their lives and then Wesley Smyth on October 7, 1991, and grandchildren to follow in the years to come.

Freddie loved to talk, tell stories and jokes. If you gave him the chance, he would chat your ear off, but it was well worth your time.

In Freddie’s younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey, unfortunately his knees paid the price. Freddie also loved cars, especially old models. He had a few that he would work on over the years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all he value spending time with his family.

Freddie will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Ruth Polachuk; children: Sarah Polachuk and Wesley Smyth; grandchildren: Teaquin Polachuk, Illianna Polachuk, Kaydan Smyth, Taison Smyth, and Jaxon Smyth; son-in-law Darcy Gladue; daughter-in-law Hayley; sister Nettie Horman; sister-in-laws: Madeline Polachuk, Dora Bourassa, Mary (Charlie) Szmata, Iren Fedorchuk, Margaret McNaughton; sister and brother-in-law Louise and David Burger; and brother-in-law Bill (Vivian) Dedick.

Freddie was predeceased by his parents Rose and Fred Polachuk; brothers: George and Jim Polachuk; sisters: Helen Metheny and Mary Duma; grandson Jonah Polachuk; nephew Johnny Duma; and niece Joanne Metheny.

There will be a Viewing and Funeral service held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with the Viewing starting at 10:00 AM followed by the Service at 11:00 AM at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 - 107 Ave).

Interment will be held after the service at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 Street). Following the interment, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at Oliver’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Oliver’s Funeral Home to be applied towards Freddie’s funeral expenses.
