Obituary For Fredrick "Fred" Andrew Roberts
Frederick Andrew Roberts, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on May 13, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
Fred was born in Unity, SK, and spent his childhood and early adult years there on the farm, working for his dad. He married and had two daughters. In the 1950’s, he moved his family to Alberta, where he worked in farming for several years, then moved to Grande Prairie where he worked at Canfor and the Plywood Mill until his retirement. Fred was a hard worker and took pride in doing a job well. For a few years, he and his brother in-law owned a “homestead” near Valleyview, AB, and their weekends were spent picking rocks and pulling stumps as they cleared the land. But Fred also knew how to have fun.
He was always active in sports, such as curling, playing, and umping ballgames. He was good at running and once caught up to a boy on a bike! He enjoyed playing cards. Fred was also a good singer and he loved to dance. His children remember him dressing up as Santa to deliver treat bags at Christmas and acting in a comedy play at a community event. Fred was always willing to help out where he could, and he volunteered to make his community a better place. Fred and his wife, Mavis were active in their community well into retirement and did a lot at the senior’s center.
Fred loved to visit and enjoyed road trips with Mavis over the years. Although Fred had some hardships and disappointments in life, he chose to appreciate the positives: a long and happy marriage to Mavis, a satisfying work life, a caring relationship with Alan, and many friends.
Fred is survived by his children: Heather, Leah, Merle, Brian, Alan, and their families, and also his sister Josephine.
He was predeceased by Mavis (his wife of over forty years), his brother Bob, and his sister Isabel.
Fred was interred at the Grande Prairie Cemetery on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

I worked with Fred at the plywood plant and both of us laid core on Bill Aldreds crew. Fred and I set the record for the most loads of 1/2 in ever made on a shift. Fred worked very hard all of the time...he was a great guy. I enjoyed coffee with Fred sometimes at the old Co-op ...he was fun to be around. My sympathy to you his family. John Mayer
