Obituary For Garret Dale Horseman

Garret Horseman, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Horse Lake First Nation, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the age of 52 years.

Garret was born in Beaverlodge, AB, on November 14, 1971, to Mavis Bellerose and Ron Letendre. He was raised on Horse Lake First Nation, but through his life he moved and stayed around the Peace Country.

Garret was always the guy you could depend on to have your back. His loyalty was unwavering, and he was highly respected. Garret was an uncle and friend to so many; and once he gave you a nickname, you knew you had a friend for life. His sly and cheeky sense of humor was one for the books, which will be greatly missed, and was one of his strong traits, other than his smile, that he happily passed down to his children.

Throughout his life, Garret enjoyed riding Harleys with his bros, listening to good, loud rock music, and spending time getting closer to his culture and traditions.

Garret will be sadly missed by his children: Janelle Horseman, Darrin Horseman, Desiree (Colton) Hunter, Kiana (Daylan) Howe, Caden Howe, Desmond Howe, and Halle Gouchey; grandchildren: Phoenix, Nixon, Devin, Tayah, Dexton, Ailani, and Khaleesi. Garret was not only a father to his own, but he was also a father figure for others. He will be sorely missed by numerous family members and close friends who will continuously love and miss him.

Garret was predeceased by his mother Mavis; his sister Anita; his brothers: Sean, Darrin, Richard, Desmond, and Calvin; and lastly, his life-partner Kay Starr Gouchey.

A Wake will be held on December 5, 2023, at 6:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave), Grande Prairie, AB. A funeral will follow on December 6, 2023, at 1:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home.

Glad to of met you, Garret...you left me with the nickname: Squisis (Little Girl)...*met him in 1990 outside the Park Hotel while my friends and I were waiting for a cab...shared a happy smoke and the rest was history...RIP Garret
