Obituary For Gary Nellis

Gary Nellis, lifetime resident of the Grande Prairie area, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was a member of the sports community in Grande Prairie and Sexsmith for many years. Later on, he developed a love of golf and could be found most days in the summer at Spruce Meadows, either working in the pro shop, or on the course with Mary and Dan.

He loved being a grampa and was passionate about sharing in their sports and activities, especially if there was a concession stand.

Gary will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 52 years Mary; children: Robin (Rob) and Derek (Tara); grandchildren: Kinley, Logan, Bo, and Sage.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Walt & I were so sorry to learn of your sudden loss. Our sincere condolences to you Mary, and your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Gary was a great guy. Even though we had not seen him for several years he was never far from our thoughts. We would often reminisce about the hockey days with the G.P. â??Athletics â??â??Aâ??sâ?? â?? and the great times we all had. It is so hard to loose someone you love but remember the good times you had shared together. Rest In Peace Gary. Our love to you Mary, and your family. ~~~~~Barb & Walt Schultz

The passing of Gary (â??Runtâ??) brings back many fond memories of our youthful years when we went to school together â?? went to house parties and sock hops in the fifties. Then came the sixties and things started to change â?? sports, boyfriends, girlfriends. Then came adulthood â?? marriage, kids, jobs- leading into old age, poor health, slowing down. But it was great fun while we were able, so my words of wisdom are to remember those happy times always and live life as full as you can, and remember Gary as a great guy, sportsman, -one hell of a man!

Dearest Mary, We are very sorry for the loss of your dear husband and we just want to send our deepest sympathy to you at this time. There are really no words to say to soften the grief you are feeling. We pray that you can feel Godâ??s loving arms around you and be giving you peace. I always think what a blessing you are to others Mary, so uplifting and encouraging. Gary said when we first moved here that your Gary was coaching the Aâ??s and he was a very good coach. He said he was lots of fun and he really enjoyed being around Gary and Murney. They are sure missed. Our hearts go out to you and we pray for you and your family. Lovingly, Gary and Lynda Clements
