Obituary For George Gordey
George Gordey, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Spirit River, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 92, with family at his side.
George will be remembered by many in the Spirit River district for the numerous years he barbered and operated the billiard hall, Modern Billiards. Upon retirement from barbering he worked shoulder to shoulder, logging for a short time with lifetime friends the Howrish brothers before going into the hotel business in Manning, AB with his wife Elsie, brother Mike (Mary) Gordey and Mary’s brother Bill (Wasy) Shedny. Retiring from the hotel business, George and Elsie settled in Grande Prairie.
More notable than his varied career was George’s love of gardening. Throughout his life he spent countless hours preparing his garden plots, nursing seedlings and proudly harvesting and sharing his bounty with family and friends. Always enjoying the outdoors, George’s other loves were hunting, fishing and then recounting the stories from those outings.
George will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years Elsie Gordey; children: Sally (Dave) Parsons, Gary (Donna) Gordey, Marlene (Roy) Dickson, Larry Gordey and Laurie (Tim) Lynch; grandchildren Nikki (Brock) Stoyko, Keenan (Chelsey) Wiebe, Tikina Gordey, Kelsey Parsons; brother Mike (Mary) Gordey; sister Lena Hunchak as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was predeceased by parents Onufrey and Magdalena Gordey, brothers Bill (Nancy) Gordey, John (Rose) Gordey and sister Verna (Victor) Grekul.
Funeral Mass for George will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.).
Family would like to thank staff and caregivers at Points West Living and particularly the doctors, nurses and staff at the QEII hospital for their honesty when caring for George as well as their compassionate, heartfelt, and dignified manner in which they tended to his needs.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your chosen charity to enhance the care of our elderly.

Aunt Elsie, I am sending you hugs and please pass the same to your children as you gather together tomorrow to send Uncle George off on the next part of his journey, and to remember what a blessing he was to each one of you in your lives. He sure looks like my Dad! He always has had a relaxed demeanor whenever we would meet and my father loved to go on those hunting trips with him, back in the day. My mom has spoken highly of you both over the years before her passing ....Love you, niece Ruby Gordey-Berlin
