Obituary For George Melvin Myers

George Melvin Myers passed away at the QEII Hospital, on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the age of 93 years.

Melvin was born on August 11, 1923 near Oxbow, SK. The family moved to Glenn Ewen, SK, then Northgate, SK, and then made their home in Estevan, SK. Melvin attended the Valleyview school and worked delivering newspapers to help during the depression. In 1939 he took a job working for the Olsen family of Arcola, SK., farming and raising purebred Hereford cattle. In 1961 Melvin moved to the Peace Country where he met Brynhild Skarberg and they were married in December of 1962. They raised four children and farmed north of Sexsmith. Mel worked as a Carpenter and Auctioneer. Mel was active as a Scout leader along with many positions in the Church service. In later years Melvin volunteered at the QEII Hospital.

Melvin is survived by his four children: Peder Myers of Sexsmith, Brittine (David) Robinson of Sherwood Park, Jergen Myers (Lisa Hickey) of Grande Prairie and Michelle (Larry) Heinz of Sexsmith; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Doug Dahl and sister Darlene Doerr.

He was predeceased by his wife Brynhild; brothers Llyod Myers, Gordon Myers, Ernie Dahl and Jimmy Dahl; and sisters Francis Briltz and Delores Dowhanuik.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11:00am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grande Prairie, AB (11212 102 St.), with a Viewing to be held at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Webster Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Scouts Canada (14205 109 Ave., Edmonton, AB, T5N 1H5). Please include a note if a charitable receipt is required.
