Obituary For George Wohlgemuth

George (Cornelius) Wohlgemuth, (AKA: ‘Pop’ of the famous Camp Wapiti Snap, Crack and Pop trio) passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the age of 73 years.

He was a man of adventure with solo trips to Alaska, missions to Cuba, and Germany, and numerous destinations with his wife, Dorothy. They always found themselves on daring expeditions like zip-lining in Alaska, and flying in a bi-plane over central Alberta.

Dad used his God-given gift of caring for others at all times: as a Wrangler at Camp Wapiti, 55-Plus Club at McLaurin Baptist Church, and in every other area of life that provided him opportunity, especially towards his wife and family. He had incredible patience, gentleness, appreciation for this beautiful world, and above all, faith. His example is one that we all aspire to live up to.

He will be missed greatly by many: his children: Lynette (Chris Broderick) and Dwayne (Jo-Anna) and their children Maeranne, Austin, Nolan, AJ, Heidi, and Lizzie; his wife, Dorothy (Brehmer) and her children Larry (Carla), Doug (Melody), and Lynda (Max Blazina) along with their children; his siblings Darlene (Harry Dixon), Lillian (Wally Fletcher), Don (Maryann), Judy (George Cassidy), Fern (Ken Kosik), David (Cheryl), and Connie Moffat; along with many nieces, nephews and his many extended Keown family and friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Keown) and his sister Audrey Dyck.

George’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 2:00 pm at McLaurin Baptist Church in Grande Prairie (10913 107 Ave).

In lieu of flowers, we would like you to consider donations to either of George’s favorite charities, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (AB and NWT Region) (3100, 246 Stewart Green SW, Calgary, AB, T3H 3C8) or CNIB (Suite 229, 9804 100 Ave, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 0T8). Thank you.

I am so shocked to hear about my good friend. We had many wonderful times together when we were growing up in young peoples. We spent a lot of time helping build Camp Wapiti and the church. We climbed many a mountain just to throw snow balls at each other. We were always playing a joke on each other. He had a heart of gold and great faith.I send you my heartfelt condolence. I will always remember his great laugh and smile and know that he is at peace. Dorothy know that I am thinking of you at this time and wish I could be there with you. You and then George were wonderful to my Mom. You meant a lot to her. Remember all the good times. God Bless you and your families at this time.
