Obituary For Gerald Larry Nayko

Gerald Larry Nayko passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, in Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 73 years.

Gerry was born on July 28, 1947, in Balcarres, SK, to Anton and Annie Nayko. Along with his older brother Allan, Gerry grew up on a family farm, eventually leaving and making his way to southern Alberta to pursue various work opportunities. While in Calgary, AB, he met his wife, Ann. The two of them were married on July 25, 1970, and were blessed with 3 children.

Over the years, through hard work and dedication, Gerry became a “jack of all trades.” No matter what the task was, he always took pride in a job well done. This true gentleman was a devout Christian man, humble, and a protector. What made him even more lovable was his fondness for the simpler things in life. The delight he found for his wife’s cooking, the enjoyment of Sudoku, Cribbage, BBQ peanuts, walks, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Gerry leaves behind his beloved wife Ann of 50 years; his 3 children: son Jerry (Bev) and their children Faith, Damon, and Hanna; daughter Jody (Ken) Mah and their children Katelyn and Rhaya; daughter Kari (Stan) Nyland and their children Tanner and Reis; brothers in-law: Jim Dykshoorn and Norm (Catherine) Dykshoorn; and sister in-law Yvonne (Dale) Van Dellen and their families; also a special mention for cousin Laura and her husband Terry Berezny and family.

He was predeceased by his father Anton and mother Annie Nayko; brother Allan; father in-law William and mother in-law Bertha Dykshoorn; and niece Rayelle Van Dellen.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020, in Grande Prairie. Due to COVID-19 restriction, the celebration of Gerald’s life will be a private family function.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (#144, 5241 Calgary Trail, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8).

“To God be the Glory”.

Condolences

My sympathy to Ann and the children and their families. He will be greatly missed and you will remember all the good times you had with him.Iâ??m sure their are many. He raised three wonderful children and cherished his grandkids as he talked about them every time. My memories of Gerald was when he was going to high school and I was around 8 or 9 years old we were allowed to go skating at noon hour as the rink was by the school. He would take my hand and skate a few laps around the rink every time. I always though so much of him for doing that because he could just have gone off with his friends. May he Rest In Peace.
