Obituary For Gerald Peter Krahn

Gerald Peter Krahn, resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 36 years.

Gerald was born on Wednesday, May 6, 1987, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He lived the majority of his life in the Grande Prairie area. He played hockey in his younger years and loved/enjoyed all animals. He took his interest in animals further by participating in gymkhana for a number of years and joining 4H with a heifer project.

His love of the country and animals made him a farmer at a young age. He worked on the family farm, as well as the neighbour’s and his sister’s grain farm. He was able to use his time management skills to help with efficiency while farming.

Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family and his son Jaxon, who was his greatest pride and joy. He also liked to spend his time downhill skiing, playing hockey, gymkhana, skateboarding, and drawing. Gerald was a very fun, charming, respectful, and loving person. He would drop everything to help anyone in need.

He will be sadly missed by his son Jaxon; parents Jake (Mary) Krahn and Gail (William) Schneider; sisters: Jennifer (Michael) Kennedy, Lorraine (Trent) McCoy; stepsister Terri (Steve) Clear; stepbrother Jason (Kim) Schneider; 9 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 12:00-1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm. Gerald will be laid to rest in the Emerson Trail Cemetery following the service.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Gerald’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

Memorial Donations may be made to Rising Above Ministries (11007 106 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2Z3).

I remember Gerald as a baby. The first baby I babysat. His dark curly eyelashes made him a beautifully photographic baby. But there weren't phones with cameras then, so instead of photos, I held him with one arm as we watched Grease on the VHS until Aunt Gail returned from errands. I've had four babies myself since, and on the hardest parenting days, I've returned to those moments of infant innocence in my mind. Perfect, untouched, wide-eyed. I return to my clear, unadulterated feelings of mother-affection and nurturing toward that little one. Because there ain't no love like the love of a mama and a papa. I grieve alongside you all for that innocent, untouched, curly-eyed little one. xx Teresa
