Gordon Frank Potratz, resident of Spirit River, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River at the age of 90 years.

Gordon was born on June 20, 1931, in Rosetown, SK. He moved to Alberta as a young man and homesteaded in Gordondale, AB. Gordon met Sharon in Mary Youngs Café in May 1964. He married Sharon Diane Lindsay on May 14, 1965. Gordon and Sharon bought the family farm in 1966 and lived there for 39 years and then they bought a house in Spirit River in 2004, where they took up old-time dancing. Together they had 5 children.

Gordon will be sadly missed by his children: Walter William Potratz and his son William Potratz; Wesley Potratz and his daughter Elicia; Crystal Gail Potratz (Dallas Martin) and their daughter Emma; Carol Dawn Martin and her children Harper and Kailey; and son in-law Greg and his children Kyle and Katherine.

Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Roxanne Lynne Simonson, parents Lucy and Walter Potratz, brothers Ralph, Ernie, and Harold; as well as sisters Viola and Lena.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 2:00pm, at the Spirit River Town Cemetery. As per Gordon’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service.
