Obituary For Gordon Jan Wray
Gordon Wray passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, with his sister and brother in-law, Wendy and Bryon Geier, at his side.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Jan and Dorothy Wray.
He is survived by his sister Wendy (Bryon), daughter Lynnette (Ross), grandchildren Skye and Kirk, son Phillip, and other extended family members.
Gordon had a great childhood growing up on the family farm with his parents and sister, and surrounded by uncles, aunts, and cousins. As an adult, Gordon was a jack-of-all-trades, taking time in his life to try his hand at farming, truck driving, welding, selling farm equipment, operating heavy equipment, and various entrepreneurial ventures. He enjoyed photography, took flying lessons, and was always ready for a long Sunday drive.
Gordon was a dedicated member of his local Legion. He worked on a surveying crew in the Worsley area in the 1960’s, and fell in love with the North, returning to live in Fairview and Sexsmith with his family in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He returned to the North on his own in the 2000’s, settling in Brownvale, where he enjoyed chatting with his neighbours and feeding the occasional stray cat in need of some attention.
After surviving a massive stroke in the fall of 2014, Gordon found his new home at the Autumn Lodge in Berwyn, and, with amazing support from his sister Wendy, enjoyed the excellent care provided by the Lodge staff.
Gordon’s family would like to share their sincere thanks with all of the medical staff who have provided such excellent care over the past three years, including Linda at the Lodge in Berwyn and Gordon’s family physician, Dr. Anita Coetzi.
The family will be arranging a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fairview Food Bank (Box 168, Fairview, AB, T0H 1L0) in memory of Gordon.

Wendy, sorry to hear of Gords passing. It brings back memories of the little home you lived in, with your mum, dad and Gordon, on the family farm. We have a piece of the yellow rose (we call it the Wray rose) that grew by the gate to your yard. Pray you will know God's peace and comfort in the months to come.
