Obituary For Gordon Stanley Harsch

Gordon Stanley Harsch, resident of Clairmont, AB, formerly of DeBolt, AB, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 77 years.

Gord was born in Drumheller, AB and raised in Craigmyle, AB until the age of 13 when they moved to Port Alberni, BC. He went to school, and then got a job at Somass Sawmill. He also got his heavy-duty mechanics papers.

He met Carol Dievert and they were married September 18, 1964 in DeBolt. The family moved to DeBolt to farm with Gord’s father in-law. He farmed for 18 years, then worked for Moore Seed until his retirement at the age of 63. After retirement, he continued to help his friend, Allen Perkins, with seeding and harvest.

Gord loved to read. He also enjoyed puzzles, watching the Blue Jays and the Oilers, playing games, hunting, fishing, gambling at the casino, curling, playing pool at the seniors’ club in DeBolt, telling jokes, going for drives, and visiting friends in DeBolt. He loved going camping with his grandkids. He was a pretty happy guy.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years less a day, Carol Francis Dievert; children: Lisa Carol Harsch (born August 20, 1965) and Ryan Gordon (Jill) Harsch (born June 14, 1972); grandchildren: Joshua Ryan Rieger, Evan Arthur Gordon Mowbray, Darrelle Pauline Harsch, and Reece Brian Gordon Harsch; brother Donald (Sharon) Harsch of Fort St. John, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gord was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Elsie Harsch, and parents in-law Art and Frankie Dievert.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at DeBolt Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8) or to Diabetes Canada (#220, 6223 2 St. SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 1J5).
