Obituary For Grace Roscher

Grace Roscher, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 77 years.

Grace (Getje) was born on February 19, 1947, in Nijemirdum, Friesland. She had three sisters and six brothers. When she was 19 years of age, she moved with a girlfriend to Burlington, ON, where she found work as a caregiver. At 27, she decided to make the move West to Calgary, AB. Here is where she met her husband, Arie, and they were married on her 30th birthday in 1977. Their honeymoon was the train ride to Toronto, ON, as her groom had been transferred for his job with the bank. She had four children: Sarah, Philip, Mark, and Chris. Grace ran a day home for about four years, while raising her own family in Calgary. In 1997, Grace reluctantly moved her family to Sexsmith, AB. To prepare for this new adventure, a good friend persuaded Grace to get her driver’s license at the age of 50. She spent decades cultivating her flower gardens on the acreage. Grace also enjoyed spending time in Kelowna, BC, with the spring

flowers, swimming in the lake and family vacation time. In both Grande Prairie and Kelowna, Grace rebuilt a community of friends that were very dear to her. She engaged on various mission trips to Mexico, Kenya, and Mongolia. She loved spending time with her family and grandkids and loving on them.

Grace enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She loved to exercise her mind with puzzles, scrabble, wordles, and reading. In her spare time when she wasn’t travelling, she tended her garden, bird watched or just relaxed in nature. Grace also loved to take care of her family by cooking and baking Christmas stollen.

Grace will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Arie Roscher; children: Sarah (Deegan) Pope, Philip (Jessica) Roscher, Mark Roscher, Chris (Jessica) Roscher; as well as grandchildren: James, Rebekah, Alexander, Benjamin, Ethan, Griffin, Finley, Chase, Faith, and Silas.

Our lives are filled with so many memories and she will forever be cherished in our hearts. Thanks for blessing us in so many ways.

A Viewing will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 – 107 Ave).

Interment for Grace will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the La Glace Bible Fellowship Cemetery. https://maps.app.goo.gl/LFEr21jQ5uHY3VDe7 (735079 Hwy 724). A Celebration of Life to follow the graveside, at 11:00 AM at the La Glace Bible Fellowship Church (9925 - 99 St, La Glace, AB).

Auntie Grace was a very special person who played an important part in my life along with uncle Arie. Apart from all the great family memories from my younger days. Grace helped to to find my way at a point in my life when I was lost. Taking me into her home with no strings attached and giving me the love, support and time to find my way again. Our thoughts here in England are with Arie and all of the family who will celebrate a wonderful person today.

We leerden nieuwe woorden. Grace wist hoe ze frietjes moest bestellen. Erg belangrijk. Lieve groet Gertie Stegenga.
