Obituary For Gwendolyn Elna Loewen

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, after a hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer, Gwen Loewen, loving mom, grandma and great-grandma, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded with love at the age of 77 years.

Gwen was born on July 12, 1944, to parents Arthur and Gladys Rees. She grew up in Bezanson, AB, and later made DeBolt, AB her home with her husband Larry Loewen, where they raised their three children: Glenda, Maureen and Brad. After Larry’s passing in 1993, Gwen started a life with Gordon Klassen at their own place in DeBolt. After Gordon’s passing in 2014, she moved into Wildrose Manor Villas in Grande Prairie, AB. It was during this time that she reconnected with Gary Angen, a childhood school friend. The two spent lots of time together over the last few years. She cherished the love and support he gave to her right up to her very last day.

Gwen was very outgoing with a wonderful sense of humour, a big personality, and was very easy to talk to. This gained her many friends everywhere she went. You would rarely see her without a big smile on her face having a laugh over coffee or a glass of wine. She had an unparalleled zest for life and was always ready to have fun and sought that in the many activities she took part in. She was a constant source of inspiration, support and encouragement for her family and would always rally around those who needed her and did everything she could to make the lives of those around her better.

She will be forever missed by her sister Janet (Dale); daughter Glenda (Bill); son Brad (Melanie); son-in-law Michael; grandchildren: Jenny (Luc), Steve (Paige), Ashley (Mike), Natasha (Dorian), Mikey, Brittany, Haley (Conrad), Kyle (Jacey), and Kate (James); great-grandchildren: Emilia, Ian, Emelie, Megan, Liam, Evan, Hayden, Nathan, Alex, Maddy, Jackson, Linden, Amayah, Brooklyn, Lilijah, Isla, and Athena; her loving companion Gary; as well and countless other cherished friends and extended family members.

Gwen was predeceased by her husband Larry Loewen, spouse Gordon Klassen, father Arthur Rees, mother Gladys Rees, daughter Maureen Siemens, and mother and father in-law Arthur and Marion Loewen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 4 2022 at 11:00 am at the DeBolt Centre (37 Alberta Ave). The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend. A link to the live-stream will be available 15 minutes prior to the service on Gwen’s obituary page on Oliver’s website.

Luncheon will be served following the service.
