Heinz Toerper, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Heart Valley, AB, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, at the age of 92 years.

Heinz was born in Northmark, AB, on December 10, 1932. He married Karen Funk in 1957, and they began raising their family on the farm in Heart Valley. In 1969 they moved to Grande Prairie, first to Richmond Hill and then later into town. Heinz and Karen moved back to the farm in 1981, however Heinz retired from farming in 2002 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. That year, they moved into Grande Prairie and Heinz’s tumour was successfully removed. Heinz and Karen lived in the Swanavon area until Karen’s passing three years ago. After Karen’s passing Heinz moved into the Clairmont Lodge.

Heinz was a journeyman carpenter, farmer, beekeeper and gardener. He was a grain farmer by trade, however he also raised cows, chickens and pigs. Heinz was quick-witted and personable.

In his early years Heinz enjoyed playing cards, dancing, camping, fishing and downhill skiing. Heinz later enjoyed two Alaskan cruises, a Mediterranean cruise, as well as a hot air ballon ride. He also enjoyed camping trips to San Diego and the Yukon.

Heinz will be missed by his daughter Marian Boyd (Gary), sons Chris (Liz) and Larry, and daughter Heidi Myrfield (Calvin); grandsons Nathan Coulson and Bryce Coulson; granddaughter Kayla Gogo; as well as great-granddaughter Clarke Gogo.

Heinz was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen; parents Otto and Minna Toerper; brothers Jasper, Karl and Otto.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church (10407 - 100 Street).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Heinz’s honor to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice.
