Obituary For Helen Mabel Balisky Peristy

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of my mother, Helen Mabel Peristy early Monday morning, August 8, 2016, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre in Grande Prairie, AB, Canada, at the age of 90 years.

Helen was born at home December 23, 1925 to Fred and Mary Balisky (Bovkoon) in Sexsmith, AB. She was raised on the family farm which her father homesteaded in 1911. She attended North Sexsmith School.

Helen cultivated a large number of friends and family either by mail but mostly by phone, including some of her school friends that she cherished dearly.

Helen’s passions were knitting, cooking and making people happy by feeding them whether friends, family or in the workplace. In Helen’s kitchen you would often hear her humming or singing as this was her happy place. Her pet dogs were her faithful companions.

She is survived by her daughter Donna Elvestad (Gerald Head), granddaughter Carol Elvestad, great-granddaughter Brittany Elvestad-Klaassen, and nephews: Brent Pozarnsky of North Dakota and Grant (Galina) Pozarnsky of Casper, Wyoming; niece Celayne (Mike) Moore and children: Joshua and Victoria of Port Orange, Florida.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Fred and Mary Balisky (Bovkoon), infant brother Gordon, brother Clarence, sister Irene Pozarnsky, brother in-law Ben Pozarnsky, son in-law, Alfred Elvestad and grandson Lyall Elvestad.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). A Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment at Emerson Trail Cemetery will follow the luncheon.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all staff who gave exceptional care for Helen at both Grande Prairie Care Center and QEII Hospital.

Memorial donations may be made to Senior’s Outreach (102, 9905-101 St., Grande Prairie AB, T8V 0X7) or to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences

I am saddened to hear of Helens' passing----she and I were neighbors for several years when I rented the condo next door to her. She was a lovely person, so friendly and she grew the largest sunflowers and tomatoes ever. May she Rest In Peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Donna on the passing of your Mom. Her smile was infectious and I am sure she is busy catching up with mom and dad. She loved her visits with them before they passed and I can just see them now.

Dear Donna, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and thinking of you at this sad time. Take care and I'm sure our paths will cross again one of these days. Karen
