Obituary For Helen Poettcker
Helen Ann Poettcker was born to John and Ann Guenther on March 13, 1947 in their farmhouse near Hague Saskatchewan. She was taken from this earth into the presence of Jesus on her 69th birthday Sunday, March 13, 2016. She now eternally enjoys the presence of God.
Art and Helen were married on September 2, 1967 and moved to Grande Prairie in 1970. Art taught at the Grande Prairie Composite High School and Helen worked first at the Bank of Montreal and then at the TD Bank. Yet her highest calling was that of wife and mother. After retirement they travelled widely, first on motorcycle and then in a motorhome. And lastly, they were snowbirds in Arizona where Helen, very suddenly, was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumor on February 18, 2015.
A painting by a friend with the theme of their wedding was placed on the wall behind them at their wedding reception. It is from Ps. 143:8-10, “Cause me to know thy lovingkindness in the morning…. Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk…. Teach me to do thy will…. (and) Lead me into the land of uprightness.” Many were the failures to this motto, but God’s goodness and mercy always nudged them back on track and followed them all the days of their life, and now Helen does dwell in the house of the Lord forever. And Art too, with others, through mercy and grace, shall follow her there someday.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Art Poettcker. She also leaves 5 children and their spouses and 7 grandchildren: son Jeremy (Susana) Poettcker of Cochrane; daughters Janelle (Cam) Nichol of Grande Prairie with their three children Ethan, Avery, and Piper; Jordana (Ryan) Kluyt of Grande Prairie; Michaela (Randy) Merkley of Calgary with their son Roman; and Nathania (Chad) Kuechle of Red Deer with their three children Griffin, Josie, and Hazel. She is also survived by her siblings: Jim (Edna) Guenther, Abe (Greta) Guenther, Art (Chris) Guenther, Jack (Betty) Guenther, Fred (Debbie) Guenther, Charles (Karen) Guenther, Esther (Bryan) Funk and Caroline (Gerry) Chambers; as well as her siblings in-law: Luella (John) Siebert, Hilda (Bill) Hildebrandt, Elsie (Jake) Siebert, Selma (Harv) Boldt, Rudy (Sharilyn) Poettcker and Allan (Janice) Poettcker; she also leaves many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn her loss.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, her younger brother Stanley, as well as a stillborn sister, Mary; also Jeremy and Susana’s little boy Diedrich Arthur Poettcker was taken safe into the loving arms of Jesus on June 20, 2015, with only but a few moments on this earth. And lastly, there are four grandchildren of the womb only, but who are now in heaven.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 6:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00am at Grande Prairie Alliance Church (15502 102 St.).
Art and the family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Didsbury Hospital for their very loving care and attention to Helen during her 7 weeks there.
Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5).

I was so sad to hear about your mother Jeremy. Your Mom was always so upbeat and talked so fondly of all of her children and her trips to the south on her bike. My thoughts are with you and your whole family. Janet

Poettcker family, I am so sad for you all. I couldn't imagine losing a mom - especially an amazing one that you have been blessed with. What a blessing to have such a close-knit family though in a time like this. I pray for strength for you all in the next few weeks and beyond that as well. What incredible joy she is experiencing right now in the heavens!

My sincere condolences to Art and family. I worked along side Helen for ten years at the TD Bank. We had many fond memories of Helen. I was always amazed how she worked and raised a large family. There were always trips to the grocery store after work. She would talk about the kids, the garden, camping trips, church. Then later on you moved into Grande Prairie. I remember Helen getting her motorcycle license and a motorcycle. We lovingly called her the 'Motorcycle Mamma'. I am sad that I won't make it to her funeral but I will be thinking about you all. Wiens Ed & Helen
Our condolences to you, Art, and family during this time of grief. We have prayed for you as you have walked through the valley of the shadow of death and will continue to pray. Due to health issues of our own we were unable to attend the memorial service for Helen. Your family and ours have been close friends ever since you first arrived in Grande Prairie in the early 70's. We especially remember our trip to Europe together as 2 couples, camping with our families, working in the Church and as colleagues at the GPCHS. May your faith in God continue to be your strength.
