Obituary For Henriette "Jane" Johanna Krol

Henriette “Jane” Johanna Krol, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Spirit River, AB, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Mackenzie Place Continuing Care Centre, in Grande Prairie at the age of 93 years.

Jane was born on January 8, 1928, in Berlicum, North Brabant, Netherlands, along with her twin sister, Tiny. They were the fourth and fifth of fourteen children in the family. In March 1953, she married Peter, the love of her life. Their adventure began shortly thereafter when they boarded a ship bound for Canada and landed in Halifax on April 1st. From there they took a train across Canada to southern Alberta. With a dream to own their own farm, they began working for various farmers in the area for six years before renting a farm from 1959 to early 1963. During that time their family continued to grow. Their seventh child was born shortly after they moved to their own farm near Spirit River in 1963. Jane was determined and energetic as she worked alongside Peter, clearing the land, raising pigs, cows and chickens, shipping cream and milk, all the while giving of her time and talents to the church and community. She never tired of the endless miles she drove, chauffeuring her children and their friends wherever they needed to go. In 1980, Jane welcomed the first of twenty-one grandchildren. Her life changed in 1984 when Peter passed away unexpectedly and far too soon. Jane began to step back from the farm, giving her the opportunity to explore other activities such as golfing and travel. In 1990, Jane moved to Horizon Village in Grande Prairie. She continued to give her time volunteering for many causes, including the church, CNIB, Meals On Wheels, hospital visits, and the condo board of Horizon Village. She also took up swimming, keeping her active for 25 years. During this time, Jane was no longer chauffeuring her children, but happily chauffeured her friends and neighbors to their events. Jane moved to Emerald Gardens in 2016 and spent the last three years of her life in Mackenzie Place Continuing Care Center.

Jane will be sadly missed by her children: daughter Marty (Ed) Saulou, and their daughter Leizan (Curtis); daughter Elizabeth (Pat) Cabezas, and children: Jennifer (Chad), Don (Nicole), and Lawrence; son John Krol (Angie Peters), and children: Angela (Lorne), Steven (Lara), and Brenton (Ashley); daughter Bev (Gerry) Broks, and children: Chelsea (Mike), Leah (Matt), Lindsay (Jordon), and Meghan (Josh); son Henry (Elayne) Krol, and children: Pierce (Leanne), Lacy (D’Lane), Tessa (Lonnie), and Aidan (Sarah); daughter Margaret (Mike) Carlson, and children: Kristen (Ben), Jodie (Andrew), and Danielle; daughter Evelyn Krol (Gilbert Girard), and children: Jolene (Corey), Kris (Shalon), and Tiana; as well as thirty-two great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister, Nellie Van Uden from Lethbridge, AB, two sisters and two brothers in the Netherlands, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter; her parents, Elizabeth and Lambertus Van den Broek; as well as four sisters and four brothers.

A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 8:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grande Prairie. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Graveside Service will follow at 3:00pm in Spirit River at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Our heartfelt sympathies go to all the family of Jane. You will all miss her dearly I'm sure as you were all so good and close to her. I will always remember her kindness and generosity in our church (St. Joseph's in Spirit River). She was always so very kind and always so active. When she moved to GP, I worried that she wouldn't have much to do but low and behold the next time I saw her she was taking swimming lessons and doing well. Wonderful!! May God comfort all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren!! Sincere sympathy Ellaine & Philip Yanishewski

So sorry for your loss. I had a great chat with Mrs. Krol a few years ago and she was lovely, kind and a joy to speak with. I was surprised she even remembered who I was. And what a great family, in particular my dear friend Evelyn. An amazing life well-lived and full of enthusiasm and adventure. Take solace in God and know she is among his Angels around the throne this evening. Thinking of you all....Keith Johnson.
