Obituary For Henriette Tideman Lettington

“Jackie” Henriette-Maria (Tideman) Lettington, resident of the Hythe Continuing Care Center, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the age of 97 years.

Jackie was born in Medan, Island of Sumatra (Dutch East Indies), Indonesia on September 7, 1918 to Bruno & Hester (Laurens) Tideman. She came to Canada on May 24, 1946 as a “war bride” of Alfred Charles Lettington. She was trained as a nurse in Holland and nursed there during WWII, where she met her husband.

They were married on May 30, 1945, and she and Alf had five boys while living on the farm at Lymburn. In 1958, they moved from the farm to Beaverlodge and she began a long career as a nurse at the Beaverlodge Hospital, starting in December of 1957 where she delivered many babies before the doctor on call arrived. She retired from nursing on January 24, 1978 after an accident while in an ambulance.

She was the dearest of souls, a true Christian, always there to help other people, loved to garden and grow house plants and her backyard was a beautiful show place and many “Strawberry Teas” were held there. She was a member of the IODE, ACW, Beaverlodge Thrift Shop and St. Luke’s Anglican Church.

She leaves to mourn, her sons: Reginald, Barry (Carol), Joe and Tom (Debra); grandchildren: Matthew (Kimberly), Mark (Holly), Robert (Charlotte), Tara (Wade), Raielle (Gary), Jeremy (Sabrina), Thomas, Stephanie and Amy. Also, she has 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

She was predeceased by her mother and father Bruno and Hester Tideman; her sisters: Joan, Georgine, Bruni and Ingrid; and her husband Alfred, his mother Edith Lettington-Anderson, his siblings: Emily, George, Maude and Hannah (Nancy), and son Richard.

A Celebration of her Life will take place Friday, February 19, 2016, at 2:00pm at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Beaverlodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation (Box 480, Beaverlodge, Alberta T0H 0C0).
