Obituary For Howard Hugh McPherson

The last ‘29 hand’ has been played and the crib pegs have been put away. The family of Howard McPherson, sadly shares the news that he has passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 89 years plus a few months of age. Making him one of the longest living McPherson in his clan.

Howard had many things he enjoyed in this world. Crib was certainly at the top of the list. as well as going to rodeos and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the finer points on how to bet on the chuckwagons.

Pride was abundant for Howard when it came to his carpentry, which served him well in his career of building throughout Alberta, SK, and Northwest Territories. He worked on building grain elevators and their support buildings that filled the skies of the prairie provinces. Through this work he made many friends amongst the Alberta Wheat Pool families.

True to his word, he left dirty dishes from the previous evening. He always told his children that there was no sense in washing them the night before because he might not need them in the morning.

Left to do the dishes are his children: Randy (Christine), Norma (Tom), Audrey (Myron), Brent (Judy), Lynn (Mark) and Shawna (Darrel); his sister Barbara; sister in-law Ruth; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was predeceased by his wife Carol; parents Hugh and Rose; brothers: Norman, Donald, and Merle “Bub”; sister June; sister in-law Ruby; as well as brother in-law Guy.

Please join the family on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 1:00pm to celebrate the very fulfilled life of Howard, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). A luncheon will follow the service at which we would love to share stories, tales, and maybe an off-coloured joke or two. Please don’t be late, it was one of Dad’s greatest pet peeves.

A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Howard’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Museum (Bag 4000, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6V3).

My condolences to Howard's kids, and all family and friends. Howard is my uncle, my dads brother he was a great man ,I will always remember his laugh it was very unique, I remember he let us ride his horses when we were kids,my sister went first she put wrong foot in stirrup ended up backwards on the horse! It was so funny!then I got on and I knew what to do ,I think Uncle Howard was impressed because he probably thought not all Norman's kids are city slickers.
