Obituary For Irene Marguerite Crerar (Macauley)

Irene Marguerite Crerar, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Mackenzie Place, at the age of 94 years.

Irene was born to Daniel and Margaret Macauley in Grande Prairie, on July 12, 1928. She was raised in the Dimsdale area. She attended the Wapiti School then stayed at the dormitory at the old Army Barracks on 90th Ave. while completing grade 10 and 11 at the Grande Prairie High School. Irene started working at the Birds Store on Richmond Ave. in 1946 for 2 years, and then married Herb Crerar on November 11, 1948. In the spring of 1949, they moved to the Crerar farm just west of Grande Prairie where they lived and raised their 3 children until retiring in 1978 and moved into Grande Prairie. Irene loved the farm, even though it was hard work. They then moved to Kelowna, BC, in October of 1980. Herb and Irene returned to Grande Prairie in 1991.

Irene always had a positive outlook on life. She was a great golfer, chipping in quite often. She always enjoyed her casino ventures and mostly came home a winner – must have been her Irish luck! Irene loved her family.

Irene will be sadly missed by her children: Larry (Rosemarie) Crerar, Linda (Murray) Elliott, and Phillip (Maureen) Crerar; grandchildren: Cristin (Vince) Low, Michael Elliott, Jill (Wade) Caughlin, Patrick (Heather) Elliott, Melissa Crerar (Joey Campbell), Curtis Crerar (Laken LeBlanc), and Travis (Kayla) Crerar; as well as great-grandchildren: Victoria Low, Ardan and Lucy Caughlin, Riley and Scarlett Elliott, Kohen and Joelle Campbell, Caidyn and Mackenzie Perry, Benjamin Crerar, and Zachary and Kaydence Crerar.

Irene was predeceased by her parents; siblings; as well as her husband Herb in 2015.

Irene was a wonderful Mom, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2023.

Irene and Herb were my friends. I visited them in their home a couple of times, and accompanied Irene to the Boys' Choir when she needed a strong arm to guide her down the aisle. We had good visits at that time, and also when she moved into WRM. There is never enough time. She surely did love her husband, children, grandchildren, and talked a lot about you all. I was sorry her stay here was not a longer one. May God bless you all and talk lots about the memories through the years. They need to be passed along to the young'uns. Kind regards, Janet Ophus
