Obituary For Irene Mary Chipaway Wanyandie

Irene Mary (Chipaway) Wanyandie, resident of Susa Creek Co-op, Grande Cache, AB, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 4:20pm, at Grande Cache Community Health Complex, at the age of 79 years.

Irene was born in Whitecourt, AB. She never went to school but was taught by her grandmother. She was raised in the bush and lived a nomadic life. Her grandmother taught her everything about medicine, plants, roots, berries, trees, and storytelling.

She liked to tell jokes all the time, was very humorous and very wise. Irene taught medicine, and would dig roots, make dry meat, pemmican, cook bake, and teach traditional ways.

Irene will be sadly missed by her children: Ross, Emile, Joseph, Theresa, Audrey, Alice, and Lawrence; grandchildren: Ross Knight, Warnock Wanyandie, Jolene, Angel, Amber, Kevin, Leissa, Cheryl, Brent, Tashina, Shalynne, Trenton, Paul, Samuel, Sabastian, Emma, Gage, Cane, Curtis, Jade, Mike, Wynonna, Carl, Amanda, Cody, Arron, Miranda, and Cheyenne; as well as many, many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Archie Frank Wanyandie; sons Jerry and Paul; daughters Elizabeth and Nancy; 5 other children who were miscarried; and grandchildren: Nelson, Derek, and Ken.

A Wake will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:00pm, at Eagles Nest Hall in Grande Cache, AB (10028 – 99 St.).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:30am, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Grande Cache (10734 Shand Ave.).

Interment to follow at Susa Creek Cemetery.
