Obituary For Irvin Glen McAllister

Irvin McAllister, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

Irvin was the 5th child of Hugh and Alice McAllister, and was born on October 31, 1933, in Pouce Coupe, BC.

A kindhearted guy, Irvin loved to tease and joke around. Everyone who knew him was well familiar with his mischievous grin and that twinkle in his eye. He had an easy-going nature and visited over a cup of coffee and cookie, or a game of crib. His favourite show these past years besides curling has been “Just for Laughs”, and as such, was no stranger to the odd little prank. He was well-liked and a respected member of the community for many years.

Irvin was married for just over 60 years to Rosalind “Linda” Doll. Beginning their life together, he worked on the Hart Highway as a grader operator, keeping the Pine Pass open when it was first built. After moving back to Dawson Creek, BC, for a few years, they moved to Fairview, where he went into farming full time. In 1980, they sold out and bought in Hines Creek, where they continued to farm before retiring to Fairview. They later moved to Leduc, and most recently, Grande Prairie for the last 4 years.

He was a counsellor for the MD’s of Fairview and Hines Creek for a number of years and the REA. We all learned to curl as we took turns being on his team through high school. He was President of the Hines Creek Curling Club for over 20 years.

Irvin is fondly remembered by his daughters: Glenna (Terry) Hartz, Carol (Dennis) Trenchard, and Donna (Rob) Petrone; sons Brian (Yvonne) McAllister and Daryl McAllister; a special granddaughter Jennifer McAllister, and grandchildren: Derek, Mark, Ryan, Amber, Lisa, Cory, Lacey, Bruce and Andrea; as well as many great-grandchildren. On January 26, 2022, we said our goodbyes to our beloved Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and friend who was with us for 88 years.

Irvin was predeceased by his wife Rosalind; his parents Hugh and Alice McAllister; siblings: Pearl Isberg, Herb McAllister, Louise Fisher, Hugh (Bud) McAllister, Dorothy McMaster, and son in-law Wayne Schultz.

The family wishes to thank the staff and friends at Emerald Gardens, Dr. Odufuwa, Colleen, Dr. Barreth, Dr. Keegan and the homecare nurses, for their care.

Should those remembering him, wish to make a Memorial Donation, they may be made to Wapiti House (formerly known as Rotary House (10101 97A St, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 6Y1)), or online at https://wapitihouse.ca/donate-2/

A Funeral Service will be planned at a future date.

I worked for the MD of Fairview while Irvin was a Councillor. He was such a nice man. One day he asked me to type up a a bit of family history. I don't remember the exact details in that history. However I do remember the piece listed several sons with their names and birthdates and six daughters with no names and no birthdates. I hope your family still has those records. My condolences on your loss.
